What are the requirements for a Thai person applying for a UK tourist visa, and does she need to have 500,000 baht in her account?

Hi all, I have been in a relationship with a thai girl for 5 years now, and she would like to have a vacation in the UK in my country with me, she has her own home, but insists she has to have maybe 500,000 baht in her account, for her visa, would my sufficient savings not vouch for her, rather than loose interest on my assets, hope this is ok to post, and hopefully gain a bit of enlightenment, kind regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the requirements for a Thai citizen applying for a UK tourist visa, particularly in the context of financial support and evidence of ties to Thailand. Many contributors agree that the applicant may not necessarily need 500,000 baht in her bank account, as long as the sponsor (the poster) can prove sufficient financial means to cover the trip. Emphasis is placed on the importance of demonstrating her ties to Thailand, such as employment, property ownership, and family, to assure the visa officers that she will return after her visit.

No she only needs to show she can fly home if she doesn't want to stay 30,000b in her account is what the visa companies will ask her to send prove off this is are 3rd visa first was 6 months holiday visa then a two year multiple entry and now a A1 spouse visa for 3 years just waiting on a decision at the moment.key visa in pattaya or Paul king visa in pattaya both good making visas for a long time

Your being coned, my partner only had 100k and I wrote the letter of invitation for her visa stating I would support her financially during her visit , and she got her visa
Oliver ********
The key is demonstrating she won't be tempted to stay in the UK and work illegally as a waitress / masseuse / farmhand / etc.

Having money in her bank could ease immigration officers' fears but 500k THB isn't enough to rule out the risk (but much better than zero).

It's more important she provides evidence of having a sufficiently lucrative career / business to return to.
Barry *********
Don’t give her a penny she is scamming you get rid
Dan **********
My wife was accepted but she had a house in her name. I submitted her deeds. Also she had children / grand children so I put that in the application. As people have said it is the strength of your argument that she is not going to overstay that is critical. She had no money in her account and I was her sponsor.

I’m Thai woman who used to apply the visa myself

No need to have much money

Just cover the flight and daily life while staying over there

And you guys are not wife and husband

It’s harder than a wife and husband couple

Single Thai woman is hard to get the visa

The important thing that she could get the visa is tie to Thailand

She has to show the important reasons that she won’t overstay there illegally

She has to show many things that make sure she will go back Thailand before the visa expire

such as her good career, her debt that she still has to pay ( a house,a car) , doctor appointment that she has to come back , the family (parents,kids, pets that she must take care)

If the visa office trusts her by many documents that she will come back Thailand

So she will get the tourist visa.

thanks again, that is very clear and understanding, I think we meet all the criteria 🙏👍

@Louis **********
your welcome

For single Thai woman shouldn’t show much money

Just cover the flights and the trip

Because if she shows much money and she doesn’t have a good career . They will think she doesn’t have the reason to go back Thailand

She can overstay with boyfriend that’s illegally and finally get married for getting the status

More than 80% that she would get refuse the visa application

She doesn’t need anything in her account. Your savings is what the officer will want to see. However the officer may want to see her bank account statement to back up any claims she makes in the application about income from home country etc.

Girlfriends finally woke up so I can double check what I said previously;

When we applied for her visa to the UK, she had only 15k THB in her bank account, and she got the visa. What I think was most important was detailing in the sponsor letter exactly how much we expected to sponsor her for, even estimating how much money a day would be given to her for her expenditure, and of course the sponsor bank statements. As well as adequate evidence of relationship.

I dont think your girlfriend needs 500k in the bank. It might help, but she doesn't need it.

Even if you send the money, the visa officer will notice this unnatural transaction in her bank account. The transaction will look like someone has deposited the money in her account just so she can get the visa. This can be a potential reason for visa refusal.
Don *********
@Mahesh ********
well that depends on how long the cash sits in the account and the frequency of statements, correct ?
Andy ********
She will struggle to get a tourist visa anyway......
Dominic ************
@Andy *******
why’s that? Tourist visas are a piece of piss if you know what your doing if not use an agent…. Simple
Seth ********
I have done this before using an agent. As the sponsor it is more about you and your financial stability so they want to see money in your account and your income

In the past I have been asked for bank stmts, payslips, photos of house, proof of relationship - extracts from messenger for eg, and other stuff

I always write a letter explaining she is on holiday, explaining she has family back home to look after and making it clear I will make sure she goes home after her stay. Seems to work.
Bob *********
As a lot of othes have commented if you have enough income and savings to sponsor her then make the application on line and upload proof of your income and savings as her sponsor. There is no actual requirement for her to have THB 500,000 in her account. But the more ties she has in Thailand such as property or family or job would help the application so include anything relevant. The visa application is technically her application but you are allowed to complete it and submit it on her behalf it is all on line. Once you start the application you can save it and go back to it to add things as many times as you like. I would suggest if you are doing the aplication on her behalf you put your email address and be sure to make a note of the application reference number. There are different sections so be sure to include information and evidence in the right section / folder and clearly name the files (or evidence) so it is easy to link them to the subject matter. Take your time, be methodical about it and thorough and follow all the guidance on the UK Govt web site. It is important to prove your relationship so you will need to draft a Letter of Invitation or sponsorship letter. Include a history of your relationship and that you will be covering the cost of the trip and accommodation and any other needs while she is here. Start the application and see how you get on. Do not try and do the application all in one go. And carefully check it before you hit Submit. Any specific questions you have then there are likely to be people in the group that could help with. I was successful with two visit visas and a spouse visa with similar circumstances. It is not easy but if you are thorough and meet the eligibility criteria you can be successful. Good luck. Just do it and see.

@Louis **********
you're welcome. The process is difficult to cover properly in a comment but work your way through the application step by step. Put together any photos of you together right from the beginning of your relationship as that will be helpful to you in terms of Proof of relationship. There is guidance on what you can submit as evidence whether you are employed or self employed.
Chris ******
Just say you are sponsoring her , you wil take care of her , staying with you etc ….show your bank statements ….. then you don’t need to give her anything …. Just show she has land or a house or kids , so a reason to return ….

Ivan ************
Be careful with this. The UK specifically look for large bank deposits unexplained by salary and can consider it deception and a reason to refuse a visa. If it looks like the deposit was made specifically for the visa application, that won't help, it's a negative. Search for "funds parking" for more. This is an extensive explanation of how they look at bank statements from a guy who works for UK immigration:

No need for her to have any money.

I brought my GF (at that time) to the UK for a holiday back in 2012. She had no job, I didn't put any money in her bank and was living at home. It is the responsibility of the sponsor to prove the ability to they can support them during the visit and provide adequate accomodation. I showed my earnings, my bank account and details of my home. The Thai citizen must show adequate ties to Thailand to show they will not overstay in the UK and in fact return to Thailand as intended.

should be a doddle to get her over. At the time I brought my then GF over I'd only known her for 7 months. She was 19 I was 24. She didn't work and lived at home. I sorted her visit visa myself and it was accepted first time.

You need to find a reason that she needs to go back to Thailand and show proof of it if possible.

Self employed shouldn't be an issue. Just show proof of your income savings and your registered Ltd company I guess.

I put photos of my home in the application. I wrote a supporting letter detailing all the plans we had for her visit to see some different tourist sites in the UK and the wish to visit my family. I put letters in from my parents including contact details and they said that they were hoping to meet her. Include evidence of your 7 year relationship from the start. To show your relationship is genuine.

It's easy to do.

Not impossible. You need to show you have enough to cover her trip, so if she's just coming for Christmas and staying with you, it doesn't need to be a lot. The 'reason to return' is more difficult, if she doesn't have a job. UKVI may suspect that she will remain in the UK with you, unless you can satisfy them that she will return home. If she's travelled to other countries and returned it will help.

That’s some twisted logic there. Tourists from anywhere are not in a blanket sense ‘less fortunate than ourselves’. Those who clearly are less fortunate than us are people who risk their lives to get to a country and arrive with next to nothing.

You seem to resent that, yet then tell us how ‘modern society should be ashamed’.

I think you misunderstand. I also resent governments that welcome illegal visitors whose sole intent is to stay for the rest of their lives with open arms and gifts while those who simply want to visit are forced to try and prove they don't want to stay forever.

Contrary to what others have said here, my girlfriend came with me to the UK a few months ago we didn't need to put any amount into her bank account.

The most important IMO was the UK sponsor bank account, and in the letter detailing how much money per day she is expected to spend and that the UK sponsor is happy to cover those costs, as well as sufficient evidence of relationship.

Perhaps we got lucky, but she doesn't even have a job "on paper". We just provided all the evidence required as well as any additional evidence we thought necessary.

Don *********
Hi Louis what’s she’s saying is correct: the UK visa people will only take any notice of money in her name in Thailand (not even a joint account will do). Whether you feel comfortable with the transaction is another question
Paul *****************
@Don ********
.....it's harder in Australia, and my girlfriend used a visa agent with all the correct documents...me as a sponsor...took 48 hours from lodgement to get her visitor Visa, it was my ability to support her while here and her employment and ties to Thailand that are important.
Frank **********
@Don ********
this is not correct. They will evaluate her ties to Thailand and the likelihood of her staying in the UK or trying to work illegally. If she builds a sufficient case for her return, she will probably be ok. Money in the bank may help that, but there is not a specific amount of money needed in an account. Her connection to her partner and the partner’s strong ties to Thailand can also play a significant role in the decision making. A letter from the partner as the person paying for the trip and their reasons for travel and return and any supporting documentation (itinerary, banking records, long term visa history, etc…) would be helpful in making a strong case. In any event, there is no secret recipe or combination of factors that guarantee a visa, just be sure to put the strongest evidence on the top of the pile, and keep any letters of support brief and to the point.
Frank **********
Sure... In the same way that twenty million GBP would be even more credibility. It is just one of many variables used to make a determination about the trustworthiness of the person applying. And the IO will see if you just randomly seeded someone's account with a large deposit... It can be just as hurtful as it is helpful. Many have been approved with less, many have been denied with more... 500K THB is not part of a checklist or some specific delta that has to be met to qualify... Can it help? Maybe.

In any event, OP and their partner just need to put together a compelling case that they will return to Thailand. Tell the truth and present the case that the person seeking a tourist visa will go home when the visa is done. That's how it works.
