TLDR : Answer Summary
The new DTV visa in Thailand is valid for 5 years and requires proof of income from abroad. Visa holders must leave the country every 180 days but can return immediately to start a new 180-day period. While the necessity to leave and return may seem ineffective, it's been confirmed by multiple commenters that this is standard practice as outlined by the Thai Embassy.
