Hey all! My husband and I are hoping to get the DTV visa. Does anyone know how long the 500k baht has to stay in the bank before applying? Also, do most people just apply themselves online or use a lawyer? I've tried to meet with a few and I've felt a bit scammed honestly...Thanks in advance!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The application process for the DTV visa includes specific bank balance requirements that vary by embassy or consulate. While some embassies accept a closing balance on the day of application, others may require that the balance remain above 500,000 Baht for a period of 3 to 6 months prior to applying. It is advised to check the specific requirements of the embassy where one intends to apply, as they can differ. Most respondents suggest that applicants can handle the application process themselves without needing a lawyer, provided they have the necessary documentation.

Read the website of the Embassy you will apply at, since the requirements differ.

You are supposed to apply yourself, and stay in the same country as you apply in, for the duration of the whole visaprocess.

we applied Vancouver consulate with just one month statement. Agree with others to email them to confirm as it may have changed since we applied in July 2024. The Vancouver consulate is very responsive and helpful so hopefully you are Manitoba or west.

Thank you! I was going to apply online, would that go through the Vancouver consulate? Or are you saying I should go in person?

@Raymie *******
You can't apply in person. All embassies went online effective January 1, 2025. Most, including Canada were online only back in 2021. If you are Mb, Ab, BC use the Vancouver consulate. They are helpful and responsive so ask any questions you may have.

the Vancouver consulate is very responsive, contact them and ask what they require or visit their website and search for the length they want for DTV. Where are you?

A recent applicant in Vancouver supplied 2 months of statements for approval.

Unfortunately there is not Some embassies are fine with the 500k deposited the same day as applying. Others require 3-6 months of seasoning.

Depends which Embassy as above. Hanoi for me I transferred in 2 days before applying and only showed account summary page of invoice. No lawyer/agent needed if you have all the right documents etc

everything is different in Thailand 😁

Australia doesn't require it to be in your account for any specific length - I just provided a proof of balance

Lawyer absolutely not needed. The 500k balance depends on the embassy/consulate you apply from. Some just look for closing balance, some look for up to 6 months balance over 500k.

When I applied in Jakarta, only closing balance was needed.

As with most official stuff in Thailand, each office has their own set of rules.

6 months minimum

Depends on the embassy you are applying from

Why contradict yourself?

6 minutes minimum…

Maybe. Many require only an end balance. Some embassies require seasoning time of up to 6 months
