Does anyone knows what is required to submit an application for a tourist visa at Savannakhet (and how much does it cost for a single entry visa)?

If you have a visa beforehand is there still a probability to get asked to show the 500euro or equivalent in cash at the border? (Particularly Thanaleng/Nong Khai border in Vientiane) in Laos its kinda of a pain to get that amount from an ATM! :(

Thanks in advance :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a tourist visa at Savannakhet, you'll need to pay around 1000 THB for a single entry visa and provide a bank statement as proof of funds. While having a visa may not guarantee that you will not need to show cash upon crossing the border, it appears some travelers have not been asked for the 500 euros or equivalent at the Thanaleng/Nong Khai border. Additionally, a flight out of Thailand is also required.

I'm sure I paid 1000B for single entry tourist visa. You will have to show bank statement showing proof of funds to apply. But I was not asked to show money when crossing back into Thailand.

You will also need to show a flight leaving Thailand.

Just submitted our application for the SETV at Savannakhet today. We submitted flights out of thailand, bank statement and 3days accomodation booking, 2 passport photos and photocopy of passport and no questions asked. Only issue was that they only accept baht and no USD so had to quickly go and exchange some usd to baht :) (1000baht)

OK. I was just confused there for a bit. In truth, more than a bit. I read here every day to try and keep up on things and when I hear something different than what I have planned after asking for advice, I want to check it out. This is all pretty new to me since alot of my time here was on medical stamps and I have no idea what those are. And don't want to know, either since I cannot get another, anyway. Just the SETV from Ventianne. I am happy with that. Thanks, Tod.

Even though there are TWO thai consulates in Lao (Savannakhet and Vientiane) they run totally different in terms of requirements for visas, etc. Vientiane requires nothing to issue tourist visas (no onward travel, no proof of funds, no hotel booking) while Savannakhet requires onward travel and proof of funds ;)

Remember, ALL thai consulates (even ones in the same country) are not the same in terms of requirements. :P

OK, thanks. Savannahket i think is different than Ventianne. Everyone here say not bank account or ticket out of thailand necessary in ventianne. Kind of scared me there for a minute. LOL Thanks for getting back to me.

This was in Savannahket. I had read on here that they would ask for it, so I had the papers prepared. Money doesn't need to be in Thai account though. I handed the papers, he flipped through each page, very brief check and I was done in less than a minute.

Alexandra Woynarowich Were you asked to show booking for stay and money in thai bank account in Ventianne? Common advice here is that you do not need those for SETV at Ventianne. Not true? You get SETV at Thai embassy? JB

Yes. I showed flight out of Thailand as well as a booking for a majority of the stay.

Thats what i want to hear! I have no issue with showing a bank statement, it's just a pain to withdraw money from an ATM in Laos to get the 500euro equivalent (x2 as we are 2 people).

Do you know if they ask for any flights out and accomodation bookings? :)
