ORIGINAL POSTER
Since Vientiane as changed a lot, can I simply go to Savanaket to get a 60 days tourist visa?

Is Savanaket ask for the 20 000 or anything else?

Last year, I did two 60 days in Vientiane and it was so easy, I wonder about Savanaket.

Thank you

, is 100% correct (y)

:) ,

Savannakhet requires proof of 20K baht or the equivalent in a bank account (you CANNOT show cash), and proof of onward travel within 60 - 90 days.

I don't know why you say Vientiane changed a lot, all they did was go to online booking for appointments. Go to their website, make a member profile and book and appointment on the day you want to go to the consulate to apply for your visa. Other than that they haven't changed anything

I'm so sorry to hear that happened, Honestly it's one of the first reports I've ever heard from Vientiane where they asked for proof of funds :( Sorry :(

@Juli****
, so if you were at vientiane last month you had pre-booked an appointment for the online booking system right?

If this did happen you're the FIRST person it happened to as I can't see ANY posts on the interweb of anyone else saying this happened and as busy as vientiane is it'd be all over the web if it was happening.

I am very certain I went to Vientiane. I was confident I wouldn’t get denied as it was only my second time there and my fourth tourist visa stamps on my passport.

Vientiane does NOT ask for a bank statement :/ Are you sure you weren't at Savannakhet?

I was at Vientiane last month, I got denied cos I couldn’t show a bank statement with atleast 20k in it. I wasn’t prepared for it since all I read was they don’t ask for any proof which is so wrong. I wasn’t the only one that was called to provide bank statement though.

I had 20k cash with me at that time but they didn’t accept it as they want a bank statement which I don’t have. So I got denied and got a one month visa on the border instead.

, they still don't ask for ANY proof of anything, and the online appointment system in Vientiane has been beaten to death on just about every thai related inter-web forum and group out there. :O

Well, you gotta admit, booking an online appointment is a teensy bit different than cruising across the border, getting your picture taken and a visa slapped into your passport without ever entering a building...
