Thought I would add my recent Education visa application as this group has given some good info to me.
I went to apply at the Ho Chi Minh consulate, gave all the required documents, including a screenshot of my recentish bank statement, with well over the 20k suspected requirement. I am not sure if that requirement was for tourist visa or not.
They then requested a recent bank statement of 3 months, not only to me but many other people applying for just single entry tourist visas as well.
There was one guy getting stressed about giving an additional 3 month bank statement document and said his life depended on getting this tourist visa.
I go in the next day and they don't have my passport ready and I see it put aside with my application form and I'm told to wait.
I then see at least 3 people get denied tourist visas. The stressed guy from the previous day got denied his tourist visa too. He then proceeds to blow up at the staff, including swearing, one racist comment and then left. He was wearing flip flops both days for what that's worth.
I am not sure why people got denied, as all of them supplied all the required documents. The majority of people had no problem getting their visas though.
After it clears up, they said they are concerned with my finances or my stay in Thailand and wanted a letter from a previous employer, parent or someone saying something or other that wasn't so clear.
I said I can give a more recent 3 month bank statement with a larger amount and they said that should be okay. Printed it out around the corner, came back and they told me hopefully that will be enough.
I had thought getting an education visa would only take 1 day, I then had to pay to change my flights and stay another night.
I went in the following day and was lucky enough to receive the education visa. Barely 1 word was spoken at immigration in Suvaranbhumi airport and everything was stamped correctly.
I applied with a fresh UK passport with 2 visa exempts and 1 extension. I also applied from one of the language schools on that list that surfaced recently.
tldr - Had to supply additional documents for Education visa in HCMC and took an additional day, got the visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The author shares their experience applying for an education visa at the Ho Chi Minh consulate, noting challenges such as the request for additional documentation, including a recent three-month bank statement, even for tourist visas. They observe that several applicants, despite providing the necessary documents, were denied, citing the applicant's financial concerns as a reason. After a delay and additional paperwork, the author successfully received their visa. They also comment on the attitudes of other applicants and mention the significance of personal presentation during the visa application process.
I think it is time to close it down. Yes, I write the same way as I speak, I stand for my opinion. And that is why you guys can keep on ranting about it, if you ask about Thai visa, I give advice, if you do not like to read it, use the scroll button. Have fun, stay safe and have a plan B just in case. Some day it might happen that your visa application gets denied.
Jamie Brooks There is no what if. If you like to live inside Thailand you follow the rules to get the visa. In your what if case only option is the Thai Elite Visa, it is a take it or leave it. If you can not afford this, than you should choice another country.
What if you have an income from the UK? Perhaps from renting out property or other such investments. Or if you have savings and want to stay here a few years?
they should be denied entry into the premises and barred from applying a visa. Have some good manners and show respect. That's the minimum Thailand can expect from it;s visitors...
Amazing that people can print out a recent bank statement, the balance is not enough and just go around the corner to a print shop and voila a new bank statement is there with more than enough money. But at least, do not wear flip flops, sounds like the best advice of this story.
