Hello all!

I have some questions regarding obtaining an education visa…

I was wondering, are you supposed to apply for an education visa, and arrive with it, or should you apply for a tourist visa (or come in with a visa exempt) and then apply for an education visa once you are in Thailand. (Also is it more expensive to do it once you are inside thailand?)

Besides that, if I wanted to stay for one year, would it be possible to use the same education visa for 3 months Muay Thai, 3 months Traditional massage, and 3 months language course…. Like if I wanted to live in different locations…. Or is it simply one visa per education course and I will have to stick to o e or the other?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks🙏🏽

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the process of obtaining an education visa in Thailand. It is advised to enter Thailand on a Tourist Visa or Visa Exemption, which can then be converted into an Education Visa without needing to leave the country. However, obtaining an education visa directly from a Thai consulate prior to arrival is usually reserved for those enrolled in accredited universities or international schools, making it challenging for those looking to attend private language schools. Additionally, there is uncertainty about the use of the education visa for multiple courses of varying types; it's unclear if one visa can cover different programs like Muay Thai, traditional massage, and language courses.

The ONLY people getting into thailand on an ED visa that they get from a thai consulate before they come are people enrolled in a real university or a international school.

At this time people who are enrolled or will enroll in a private langauge school are not able to request Certificate's of Entry :/

Thanks for the info… Do you know if it’s possible to do 2 months visa + visa extension and then switching it to an ed visa… or if I would not be able to get the extension. Just tryna see how long I can extend my stay over there 🤔. Thanks!

plenty of people have come in on tourist visas gotten stamped in for 2 months, enrolled in a school and then gotten a 90 day ED visa issued in country and then gotten extensions every 90 days without issue based on education. I just meant you can't get the ED visa at the consulate in your country and get into thailand right now

The process at the moment is for you to enter Thailand with a Tourist Visa or Visa Exemption and either can be converted to an Education Visa in Thailand without you leaving again. And yes, paperwork has to start immediately upon your arrival.

I may be wrong but i dont think they are issuing education visa except for universities and accredited school from overseas at present. This should be on your local embassies website.

I heard the same yesterday when talking with a local language school about getting an ED visa. Come in on a tourist visa and have them begin the ED visa process immediately upon your arrival since the paperwork takes a bit to get processed.
