Hi there, I heard that the Thai immigration office has issued a statement for possible visa extension due to the corona virus situation. Does anyone have any information about this or has done it? I have an Israeli passport and there are strong travel restrictions to Israel right now. Here on a student visa. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat on a student visa in Thailand is seeking information about possible visa extensions due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions to Israel. While others provide insight, they stress that there are currently no exemptions for overstaying and suggest contacting Thai Immigration directly for assistance.

Oh well, I appreciate your answers, special the I'd prefer to extend by 30 days and then tell me I assume you like to stay 30 more days.

You got your answers and sorry that we have to give you the same advice as your Embassy and Immigration.

NO, you can not use this virus as excuse to stay longer in Thailand.

NO EXEMPTIONS ON OVERSTAY.

Please what ever story you read or hear in the bars, do not overstay.

There is no exemption or leniency or what ever you like to call it, overstay is overstay and you pay the fines and depending on time get blacklisted, if arrested it will be jail, court, jail until you pay your ticket back home and black list much longer.

Hey Noga, from what I’ve read they are making exemptions on overstay for people who had flights booked already to countries that have had their flights canceled such as to Korea or to China. You’ll have to check directly with Thai Immigration. You may also be able to do a quick trip to a neighboring country.
Robert *******
You read wrong, there are no exemptions on overstay.

Since you have just ten days left, I’d suggest going to immigration and clearing it with them. Did you have a flight booked already that’s been canceled?

You preferences, needs, wishes are NOT an Emergency. The statement is made to help people who get into problems with visa and travel arrangements.

i appreciate your attempt to help, but please don't assume anything about my circumstances. My questions are regarding the current special circumstances that have resulted in a change in regulations. Im aware of the former regulations and looking for specific information or experience with the current circumstances.

There is no 30 day Extension of Stay available on the Non Immigrant ED visa. Safe travels with one of the available airlines.

again, i know, that's generally true. But due to the statement issued by the immigration office regarding the special circumstances of the corona virus, i was wondering if anyone had any specific information about that.

I called my embassy, they said they can't help. The official Israeli airline has cancelled all flights between Thailand but obviously there are other airlines. My question is I'd prefer to extend by 30 days in the hope that this situation dies down and then fly home. Ive already extended the amount of times I can, and now my visa is up in 10 days.

Go to your Embassy in Bangkok and ask. Thai Immigration wants to see a letter from your Embassy requesting an extension of stay.

But DO NOT OVERSTAY...AS NO EXTENSION WILL BE GIVEN TO ANYONE ON OVERSTAY STATUS.

What is the question? You have a visa and as long as you study you get an Extension of Stay.

If you like to go home, you check if there is a flight available and if there are no flights possible to leave Thailand towards Israel you contact your Embassy to get a statement to confirm and with that statement you visit Immigration Office.
