How can I apply for a visa extension or use border crossings every 90 days while living in Thailand?

Many reports here of others who make the trip to Lao sound easy. I am planning to go soon.

However, it's what happens next that has confused me.

My salary is straddling the 40k limit and so I'm not sure if I am able to meet the financial requirements. (Hence Savannakhet)

How do I apply for an extension?

Or is there another way?

A colleague of mine has suggested border crossings every 90days.

Is this really an option?

I have a UK passport.

Wife to be is thai with both UK and Thai passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on how to apply for a visa extension while in Thailand, specifically about meeting financial requirements given their salary is close to the 40k baht limit. They are considering traveling to Laos for a visa and have heard about the options for border crossings every 90 days. Insights from community members indicate that one can apply for a Non-O visa at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet without needing to provide financial proof, allowing for yearly renewals by exiting and re-entering Thailand.

To apply for an extension of stay at the immigration office you'd either bank 400K baht in an account in your name for 2 months before you apply OR you would use a notarized letter from your consulate stating you make 40K baht a month in income.

It's totally an option and I know people on their 5th or 6th yearly Non-O from Savannakhet without any problems

At the thai consulate in Savannakhet you do not provide any financial proof.

You'd apply for a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa which would require you to border-bounce every 90 days for the duration of the visa.
