A query regarding 90 day report fines.

On koh phangan the new immigration office is issuing 5000 baht fines for non filing of 90 day repirt ...this is now quite common with people on 60 day covidnextensions due to the mismatch in time between the extension and report.

I always thought 2000 fine if 'caught' at the office, upto 5000 if 'outside'

Comment from someone more knowledgable than I?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports from Koh Phangan indicate that immigration offices are issuing lower fines for failure to file a 90-day report, typically 2000 baht, versus a higher fine of up to 5000 baht in certain circumstances. The confusion arises from mixed signals regarding reporting requirements, particularly for those on 60-day COVID extensions. When arrested for other violations, fines may increase, with daily penalties accruing until a report is filed. Travelers are encouraged to confirm regulations and report discrepancies to immigration offices.

I just don't see this topic going anywhere (not any where positive anyway) and can't see the reason to keep it open (as it's gonna take baby sitting to keep it on track)

SO I would say on that note we are done :O

If anyone wants it re-opened let me know.
@Jo**
I messaged you about it too

Thanx one and all

The requirement to do a 90 day report once you got on an extension for the same reason LONG enough to hit 90 days has always been an issue. It's just some offices were telling people don't do, it, while others were telling people to go file BEFORE they could get their next covid extension.

In theory if you showed up here before the lock down last march on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry, then took amnesty, the took an embassy extension and then started milking covid extensions you would have ONLY needed to begin doing a 90 day report when you hit 90 days on the covid extension (the ones that have the ข้อ 5 written on them). That means you wouldn't do a 90 day report until you were half way thru the SECOND 60 day covid extension and that's because you have to be on the SAME extension for the same reason long enough to hit 90 days.

This is to do with this new poster that got put up there. Maybe someone can get a picture of it so we can get the correct context. Also, I understand tvar people are complaining that they weren't told or warned about this. Is it not written in their passports {bottom of the Covid extension stamp}??

good questions ...I think the 5000 will say ....upto 5000

I dont have a covid stamp so cant comment.

@John *******
I think it just says to do your 90 day report. Like it says on my extension. I know of some people on this extension that did bother to read their stamps and asked immigration (not Kpng) how to do this and were told don't bother.

Sadly I have no solution for you people with this other than if enough people call Surat Thani and raise a shit storm of complaints maybe they'll go back to the 2000baht fine that they should be charging :(

Just did mine today. As you can read the 5,000 baht notice ( not exceeding )

I think the situation is probably ...upto 5000 baht (as correctly stated in all the documentation), at the office on any renewals 2000.

Perhaps some io are not correctly applying the rules. I have heard of both correct 2000 baht fines and also (but uncorroborated) 5000.

@John *******
that clearly says it can be up to 5000baht ONCE YOU GET ARRESTED :O not if you're going to an immigration office to file a late report.

We see these tiny immigration offices making up their own rules often and it seems that no one has the moxy to call them out on it, argue with them and/or report them.

@Jay **********
did they put the fail to file a 90 day report stamp on time in your passport?

AND

Does it have 5000baht listed as the fine?
Tod *********
@Jay **********
totally bogus, on the real TM47 form the receipt they tear off and give you back doesn't have that printed on it

Looks like they took some creative license with their forms :P
Jay ***********
@Tod ********
Thats the form , ( official ) given out in Pai but you know us up country folks , we're a little different :)
Tod *********
@Jay **********
pai is the same as Koh Phangan they are one of those rogue offices that do what they want to
Jay ***********
@Tod ********
no sir AND actually this is the first time I've noticed a 5,000 baht notice
Tod *********
IF I was to bet I'd wager you're getting a failure to file a 90 day stamp in your passport that states you were fined 2000baht and a receipt for that amount too :/ There is no way an immigration office can charge a 5000baht fine for failure to file if you're AT the immigration office, that's not how the rule is set up
Tod *********
The actual rule for fines for 90 day reporting are the fine is a static <-(as in it doesn't change) 2000baht whether you go report 8 days late OR 8 months late.

The 5000baht fine comes into play ONLY if you're arrested (usually for some other reason) and they find out you are not current on your 90 day reporting. That's when you can be fined 5000baht and 200baht a day from the date of your last report until you file a 90 day report.

It's even spelled out in english on the 90 day online reporting website
