My mom has been on covid19 extension since late last. However, this time the officer asked for her 90 days and asked for a 2,000 Baht fine by telling her that she missed the 90 days. Is this fine legitimate?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 2,000 Baht fine for failing to file a 90-day report in Thailand is legitimate. According to the discussion, it is common practice for immigration offices to impose this fine when individuals do not submit their 90-day report as required. The original poster indicates that her mother received a notification regarding the 90-day report but failed to comply, leading to the fine during her application for a COVID-19 extension.

And I think we've taken this thread as far as we can. The O/P said her mother DID get a small slip telling her when her 90 day report was due BUT didn't go file a 90 day report.

That means when she showed up for her next 60 day covid extension and hadn't filed the 90 day report she'd need to go file, pay the 2000 baht fine for failure to file on time and THEN go back and apply for the covid extension.

All I can say is pay attention to the papers and stamps they put in your passport people.

The fine of not filing a 90 day report is 2K THB. Some immigration offices require it when you're in Thailand longer than 90 days, and other immigration offices require it if you are on an extension of stay longer than 90 days.

She went to Cheang Wattana this morning, and the officer asked her to go to Mourng Thongthani to do the 90 days report before they can grant the 60 days extension at Cheang Wattana.

Sadly, she needs to do 90s ๐Ÿ˜žplus the 60 days extension

did she have a 90-days report receipt tacked into her passport? It would contain the date when her next 90-day report was due

Then there is no guessing. For the 90-days report she can visit Immigration up to 15 days before or 7 days after the date which is stamped into the receipt. Just follow what this receipt says, and she wonโ€™t be fined again

That's a normal requirement for Bangkok Immigration

90 day reporting and getting an extension are not the same thing , generally different desks

though having extension very 60 days can replace the 90 days ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜”

Depends on the immigration office, sadly. Which immigration office?

immigration offices are not allowed to fabricate illegal fines

That is correct. However, an immigration office is allowed to enforce certain policies. Some immigration offices require a 90 day report IF a person is in Thailand physically for more then 90 days. Other immigration offices require a 90 day report only if a person is on an extension of stay (or stamped in) longer then 90 days.
