What are the implications of canceling a work permit and applying for a tourist visa in Laos before returning to Thailand?

What will happen if you cancel your extension of stay and work permit and go to Laos to apply as a tourist and come back again in Thailand? Will there be any problem coming back in because you entered Thailand before as a tourist and suddenly got a work? Or will there be no issues? How long will the tourist visa be when you apply in Laos and how much? Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Canceling your extension of stay and work permit in Thailand before applying for a tourist visa in Laos is generally straightforward. As long as you properly cancel both, there shouldn't be issues returning to Thailand. In Laos, obtaining a tourist visa at the Thai consulate typically takes about 2 days and costs around 1000 baht, granting a 60-day stay upon re-entry into Thailand.

Vientiane does not require proof of funds, onward travel or a hotel booking. Get the application when you're at the consulate.

You'll be fine.

Great. Thank you so much. That's an assurance I'm far from being refused to enter back in Thailand.

as long as you cancel your work permit and extension you won't have any problems.

A tourist visa from the thai consulate in Vientiane takes 2 days to get (turn in your passport one morning, pick it back up the next afternoon) and it costs 1000 baht

You will get stamped into thailand for 60 days when you stamp in on a tourist visa

I think it's just up to the mood of the person taking the application. I had two people from the same country with the exact same thai travel history in their passports apply for a tourist visa in Savannakhet one right after the other. The first person was not asked for ANYTHING, and the second person was asked for proof of funds and onward travel. :O

now don't be like that, I'm stating that Savannakhet CAN ask for exactly what I mentioned as far as the proof ofz. That you weren't asked is good, BUT that is not the same as saying no one will ever be asked.

The group is set up to give people the information so they can go prepared and not come off the rails at a consulate. Right now the ONLY consulate in S/E Asia where they do NOT ask for any of the proof ofz is the one in Vientiane.

I just did mine days back thus laid the facts, several other foreigners were with me as well and no proof was required, everyone prefers Savan than Vientiane.

Its not about being right or wrong its just about sharing what one knows, its all out of the will to help others but if this is how its taken then I'll just give the floor then

You are incorrect, it's NOT better in Savannakhet because they ask for proof of 20K baht in a bank account, proof of onward travel and sometimes a hotel booking whereas Vientiane does not.

what documents do I have to prepare? Or will the documents be provided in the Thai consulate? Oh wow. 60 days. Will they ask for proof of onward travel, hotel accommodation, and proof of funds? I do have a Thai Bank account since I am working at a school right now. Will they ask for it?
