My question involves HOW MANY 30-day extensions can be obtained. US citizen, came into Thailand visa exempt. Applied for and extended for 30 days. Went to Vientiane and received 60-day tourist visa. Can I EXTEND this for 30 days when the time comes? After that, if I obtain another tourist visa, can it also be extended 30 days? Thanks for the assistance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen who initially entered Thailand visa-exempt and later applied for a 30-day extension can receive one additional 30-day extension for both a single entry 60-day tourist visa and any subsequent tourist visas or visa-exempt entries. Each extension costs 1900 baht.

Yes sure. I did the same as you

so yes, if you get another tourist visa or come in on a 30 day visa exempt entry you can get another 30 day extension :)

ONE 30 day extension per ENTRY (visa exempt or tourist visa).

You're gonna hafta figure out another way to stay. After this 30 day extension you gotta exit the country. Now you can come back in on a NEW 30 day visa exempt and then get a 30 day extension on that entry, BUT you will have to exit.

hey Todd, I know you pretty much know most of the Visa rules, is it still only possible to get one 30-day extension at the immigration office after you come in on your 30-day Visa? I just got my 30-day extension yesterday but I would like to stay for another two months

Each 30 day visa exempt entry or single entry 60 day tourist visa can be extended ONCE for 30 more days for 1900baht.

its possible I am not sure. I did it the way I did because I was living here and had the opportunity to visit and experiance different parts of SE Asia every 90 days. Great little vacays. How ever you dp it I am sure you will have no problems. Good luck.

No, I want to stay 1-2 years. I thought maybe multiple entry makes process easier, requires less traveling or less times prolonging.

if you think you will leave before your visa is up sure metv is the way to go. But if you are going to stay the entire 60 +30 days why bother. I think metv more expensive than single entry.

many thanks!!! It is exactly what I wanted to do! Just returned from Nicaragua where I stayed 3,5 years in this way. Any advice how to better enter for the first time? I am in Europe now and have never been in TH. Is it not better to start with multiple entry visa?

@Santa ******
. get your 60 SETV and extend for 30 days. Go to another country, there are many to choose from, get another 60 SETV and go thru the same process. Try not to do countries, or should I say consulates back to back. I did it for 3 years and no problems.

you can extend visa just ONCE??! I want to live in Thailand 1-2 years, is it not possible to do it legally? By prolonging visas I mean.
