This may seem a little redundant but I couldn't find a post addressing it. I arrive in Thailand on January 9th and will be staying for 5 weeks. As an American citizen is it only a 30-day stay and have to go to immigration to get an extension or is a visa and arrival good enough for me to stay 5 weeks?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American citizen arriving in Thailand on January 9th can stay for 5 weeks under the current 45-day visa exemption. If needed, an extension of 30 days can be obtained through immigration, costing ฿1,900. Recent discussions suggest potential new requirements for vaccinated travelers, so it's advisable to stay updated on regulations.
For anyone who's interested this is what has caused the meltdown. The head honcho of the disease arena wants all arrivals to be double-vaxxed, with some supersizing deals for those coming from China. He's taking his proposals to the relevant government offices at the Big Chief meeting on the morrow. This is actually a statement he made, so it's not a "rumour" as such, but it still may not get off the ground.
45 day visa exemption stamp if in bkk you can go to immigration the same day as long as you land during their working hours and arrive before they close, apply for the 30 day extension the cost is ฿1,900 and you get 75 days of stay in Thailand….
I went to the Thai consulate website earlier today and there's no mention of needing COVID insurance. I'm double-backed and have my card with me so I'm getting there. Literally boarding the plane right now to head over there.
Frausto This is the certificate which most people received who were vaccinated in Thailand. From this it was possible to install an app on your phone with the same details. Either this form or the app was sufficient for entry into the country, and for travel around the country
Vaccine Passport is the colloquial term given to the WHO yellow booklet which contains ALL vaccinations. If you have a card showing the two shots that's good enough. As I said before, it may not happen, but it's convenient to be carrying it should it be required.
I still don't know what a vaccine passport is. That was never explained to me. I just said that I have a vaccine card and I don't know if that would work if this rumor were to come true
Rumours aren't, but advice is. Again, re-read my initial comment to the OP, who has indicated he has the vax certificate. So the advice was received and the matter is closed.
"as far as I know" comment is I HAVEN'T read any official new releases from our Government. No need to talk about rumour just lets stick to what's really happenning. Rumours aren't part of this group. Sorry Steve.
Go back to my original post. It was merely a cautionary comment to the OP to be prepared, nothing more. You say "as far as I know" and then "please post truths"! Perhaps follow your advice. I'll post what I like within the rules of the group. If you don't like it, well.......😂
nah forget this until the thai government announce it. Now as far as I know Chinese tourists do not need any RAT tests before entering the Kingdom. Please post truths.
Beer I'm just passing on what was reported yesterday. Sure it's a rumour, but those who were here through covid know that the majority of these "leaked" rumours actually came to fruition
That'll do the trick. At this time it might just be people arriving from China, but the rumour-mill is saying the Thai government doesn't want to be seen discriminating against the Chinese, and we're well aware of knee-jerk reactions in thd past!
