Has anyone from the USA gotten a Special Tourist Visa (STV) ? I haven't seen anyone that got one yet. Mine was rejected, and there was no reason given, I was just told to reapply.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses experiences with the Special Tourist Visa (STV) for those from the USA, mentioning a rejection without explanation and a lack of successful applications seen in the community. Comments suggest applying for a normal tourist visa with an option to change to a longer-term visa later. Additionally, it's noted that the STV allows for a 9-month stay with no possibility to change to another visa type while in Thailand.

Unless you're only going to come here for the 9 months a Special Tourist Visa allows you to stay (enter get 90, and then two extensions of 90 days each) DON'T waste the money on it.

You cannot change to any other type of visa inside the country from a STV. <- that means you can come here, stay 9 months and then you leave and go back to where you came from..

the tourist visa is now up to 45 days +30days extension, right?

For those of us that would want to stick around longer term to make the quarantine worthwhile, but don't qualify for retirement (or work or marriage) visas, is coming in as Tourists then applying to learn Thai somewhere the only legitimate option?

a tourist visa is 60 days. If your passport country qualifies for visa exemption then that has been increased from 30 days to 45 days to compensate for the mandatory quarantine. Either option is extendable for a further 30 days at a local immigration office.

Just apply for a normal tourist visa these days and changeover in Thailand to a longer term visa.
