Just wondering if it’s possible to get two 30 day extensions in a 12 month period? We were planning on 2 trips to Thailand this year but want to spend longer than the 30 day visa exemption they are talking about bringing back on both stays. None of the Visas seem to suit our plans.. any advice would be appreciated 🙏
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the possibility of obtaining two 30-day extensions for visa exemptions in Thailand within a 12-month period. It notes that currently, entrants can usually get one 30-day extension on their visa exemption, and a second extension (if applicable) could only be for 7 days. However, obtaining a tourist visa that grants an initial 60-day stay, plus a possible 30-day extension, is recommended for longer trips. Concerns about the impending reduction of visa exemption periods and the visa application process for tourists looking to spend more time in Thailand are also addressed.

"None of the Visas seem to suit our plans" why does a tourist visa not fit?

If there is quite a space between your two visits and you return to your home country in between then you should have no problem coming in on a visa exempt and getting a 30 day extension both times. The recent crackdown is not on genuine tourists but those abusing the free entries and extensions within a short period of time.

Yes. Shouldn’t be a problem especially if returning to you’re home country in between visits

Nope. They announced last year that you get one 30 day extension. The second one will be for 7 days.

I got lucky last year. I applied for my second one , just days before Thai Immigration made their announcement November 13th.

Why not just get the TR 60 visa

An average tourist gets 30 or 60 days visa free stay n only stays for 21 days but if u r planning a longer stay it's not a visa free exempt stay it's a different category visa n as such u should find out out is suitable for u n get the right visa for your stay

If you are looking at two 60 day visa exemptions then it is going to depend on when you travel. If you are thinking of two 60 day visa exemptions each with a 30 day extension then it’s not going to happen as the second extension will only be 7 days.

Also, factor in the likely change to 30 day visa exemption some time this year.

How long do you want to stay on each visit?

Would you consider obtaining a tourist visa that provides 60 days, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days? If you need another 60 days, just do a border run.

It's only talk about reducing visa exempt entries to 30 days, it might not happen. But the simple solution if you are worried about it is to get a tourist visa, the single entry tourist visa will get you stamped in for 60 days and you can extend it by a further 30 days at the immigration office serving wherever you are located inside Thailand

I think you need to check the info you give. The visa free entrance is already reduced to 30 days.

Marc De Groote Incorrect. Visa exemption is still 60 days.

Marc De Groote I came back from 5 weeks in Vietnam yesterday and got the 60 visa allowance. I had a 60 day allowance then 30 day (1.9k baht) extension in mid Dec-Jan. Planning on leaving at the end of this 60 days, back to sunny UK ;)

Nick Cartwright someone on immigration told me that. So I guess we can believe that.

The question I have: Is there a discretionary aspect to the Tourist Visa ? In other words, can they refuse to issue it if it appears you are using it to get around the forthcoming 30 day limit on a Visa Exempt entry ? I'm asking for a friend who is coming here to look for work.

Allan Eaton The Tourist visa is for tourism. You mentioned your friend is looking to work.

They cannot use a tourist visa for this. They need a WORK VISA.

Allan Eaton Thai consulates can refuse to issue any visa for any and no reason. But highly unlikely they would refuse to do so just because a visa exempt option exists. So if your friend doesn't have an extended history in Thailand there should be no problem

It is still 60 days stamp on entry. No firm news on that changing yet
