Hi everyone, I flew in from India on a tourist visa to stay with my parents in thailand (neither one is thai). I was told before flying I'll get 3 extensions for 270 days, but it turns out stv visa is a different type even though I submitted the same documents. How many extensions is it possible to get on this, can this be converted to another visa for a longer stay, and how can this be done?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster arrived in Thailand on a single-entry tourist visa (TR Visa), valid for 60 days with a possible 30-day extension, totaling 90 days. Several comments clarify that, due to ongoing Covid-19 measures, it might also be possible to get two special extensions of 60 days each until September 30. Users suggest other visa options, such as converting to an education or work visa, and recommend contacting a language school or visa agent for assistance{

90 days. It's a regular tourist visa. Look into other options such as education visa, volunteer visa or work permit. In pre-pandemic times with a visa run you could get one more 90 day visa. Unfortunately, it's not an option right now. In a nutshell, a month before your allowed 90 day stay runs up, reach out to a language school or a visa agent. If you can fork out 20 grand, Elite visa might be an interesting option

20k USD for 5 years. Education and volunteer visas are at US$1000-1500 a year

You have the TR 60 day visa which can be extended 30 days for a total of 90 days, confused with the STV 90 day visa which can be extended twice for a total of 270 days.

In any case the TR visa can be extended with the Covid 60 day extension until Match 30 and possibly beyond depending if Immigration decide to extend the Covid program.

One normal extension is possible and then maybe continuous 60 day special Covid extensions. At least until September 30 in my opinion.

you will need between 15-21 days left on your current stamp to allow for the processing time. Some offices differ hence the different number of days. Youā€™d need to find out from your local office for their rules.

@Stuart ********
is this only counting work days or weekend also?

@Nancy *******
day counts include weekends or holidays.

@Harley *******
find a school doing a course that you want to study, pay the fees for the course and usually theyā€™ll apply for your visa on your behalf.
Harley ********
Iā€™m in the same visa
Stuart *********
Yes thatā€™s a single entry tourist visa. Good for 60 days on arrival. Extendable once for a further 7 days. (Edited 7 rather than 30 as the OP is Indian)

Thanks for the help. How soon can I apply for the extension?

Is Filipino 30 or 7? I am American and my wife is Filipino. We planned on both getting 30 day extension in May
Moomin *********
Brother you won't get a 30 day extension, you'll only get a 7 days extension on a 60days tourist visa. This is because of your indian passport. They only sell 30 days extensions on a 60days TR visa to white people, it's strange but that's how they do things out here. I suggest you to not get an extension on this 60 days tourist visa, just get an unable to travel covid 19 extension .

@Moomin ********
"white people"? Give it a rest.
Stuart *********
@Moomin ********
youā€™re correct. I forgot about the 7 day extension for certain nationalities.

@Stuart ********
yeah the IO will have him pay the same 1900baht for 7 days and look at him like his is some kind of intruder from another planet, they think they're living in some special territory in another galaxy. The extension stamp will create problems for his future Visas to Thailand.

thanks for the quick reply. Is there no way to get 60 day extensions on this post the 30 day extensions?
Stuart *********
@Parth ***********
that depends on whether the Thai government extend the option to apply for a ā€œUnable to travel due to Covidā€ extension. Currently that option ends on March 30th. It *may* be extended but we just donā€™t know yet.
