I was going to get a 6month multi entry visa as I am going to be in thailand for 5 months... I'm in New Zealand and they have just changed to evisa system. So the 6month visa that used to cost $350nzd 2 weeks ago is now $1000nzd... is there a more cost effective way to stay in thailand for 5months other than that visa... unfortunately I'm 49 but turn 50 in August so can't go down that route as I'd only be in thailand for 40 days after my birthday. I just can't believe the massive price increase.... What are others paying for a 6month multi entry??

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking cost-effective options to stay in Thailand for 5 months due to a significant price increase for the 6-month multi-entry visa (METV) at the Thai consulate in New Zealand. Recent comments suggest alternatives such as entering on a 30-day visa-exempt entry, extending it for another 30 days at an immigration office, and possibly making a visa run to a neighboring country for additional entry options. Overall, the community discusses the cost and challenges faced by New Zealand citizens in securing affordable Thai visas.

This isn't gonna turn into a "how much thai visas are the world over" post ๐Ÿ˜ฎ and I apologize for keeping it going talking about the pricing in NZ for a thai visa

it is what it is,

kiwis have to deal with it, or they don't and they can come in free stamps and get the visas in country or at a nearby thai consulate ๐Ÿ™‚

That's similar to a visa here in Myanmar

Looks expensice but it is still a good price when you consider how much time and money you'll spend to get other visas multiple times to make the 6mth period. Sure new guverment in NZ can do smth about it if we ring the bells to local MPs. Same with Vietnam and other asian countries.

prices will be set by thai consulate and nothing to do with nz government....

Go in on a 2 month visa, or 2 + 1 month and visit VN for a month or two in between.

even a single entry tourist visa is NZ300 <- 6545 BAHT or $180 USD ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

They are far better comin' in free stamp entry..

damn that's crazy! Guess they don't want you guys traveling! Ya, in that case do 30+30

Unfortunately there is no other place for kiwiz to get a 6 month METV ex๐Ÿ˜•pt the thai consulate in Wellington (that did just do a CRAZY price incr๐Ÿ˜•se :O) I mean even a single entry tourist visa from that consulate is NZ 300 ๐Ÿ˜• )

Your best bet is to fly in free stamp (30 day visa exempt entry), take the 30 day extension on that at the immigration office where you stay for 1900 baht.

THEN

either bounce out and back by land to get a NEW free stamp (30 day visa exempt entry) which you can do TWO times a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) and take the 30 day extension on that

OR

Go to a thai consulate in a nearby country that borders thailand, get a single entry tourist visa, enter thailand by land, get stamped in for 60 days and take the 30 day extension on that

Your question ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ ๐Ÿฒ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ต ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐—ถ ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜† doesn't even factor into it because you have to get the 6 month METV at the consulate in your home country

yeah doing multiple border runs looks like my only real option now. I was gonna send passport away but realized I would miss out by one day from being able to use it if i did so opted for waiting for evisa. Just can't believe the huge increase of 3x... I was asking about what others pay as reference to whether kiwis are paying a premium compared to others.

much, much more than others

yeah that's what I was thinking, at first I thought it must be a error as I did expect a increase in price but to triple it is excessive. If it had been $500nzd then I would of just paid it, but to pay $1000nzd and still have to leave the country twice is ridiculous

@Robert ******
yep, not an error, they just went hog wild with the prices once they switched to the eVisa system

Incidentally NO OTHER consulate in the WORLD on the eVisa system raised their prices like that, not a single one. I have no idea what they're thinking over there in Wellington

no thinking at all.... I did email them on the 19th but haven't got a response, tried calling them and all ya get is a answer phone.... I guess they don't want kiwis going there longer than 30 days.... making me consider staying in loas or Cambodia or even Vietnam and spend my $$ there instead.... it will definitely discourage a great number of traveller's to Thailand
