Been reading lately about the Ending of 60 day visa.

Is this correct.. is it same for Australian passport holders.

If only back to 30 days is it possible to get a 60 day extension if you are living with long-term Girlfriend in her home..

Thanks 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is currently no official confirmation regarding the ending of the 60-day tourist visa for Australians; the reported change concerns the visa exemption period reverting from 60 days back to 30 days. Australian passport holders can still obtain a 60-day tourist visa, which may be extended by an additional 30 days upon request. Living with a Thai girlfriend does not qualify for a special extension; only marriage to a Thai national typically permits a 60-day extension based on a family visit.

A lot of people who keep re-entering Thailand, on tourist extensions, are being denied entry or receiving final warnings.

Weird. Can't understand why a Thai bank would want proof of tax payment in another country. I'm with SCB and Bangkok Bank and all they wanted was my Tax File Number from Australia. I didn't have to prove anything

It's not the 60 day visa it's the 60 day visa exempt they are talking about. The 60 day tourist visa is still valid

Peter Roberts . . . “Been reading lately about the Ending of 60 day visa.”

**** WRONG! There still is a 60-days single entry Tourist Visa.

What is planned, is the reduction of the 60-days stay permit on a visa-exempt entry back to 30 days

“Is this correct.. is it same for Australian passport holders.”

**** No this is NOT correct. Australian passport holders can still apply and get issued a 60-days tourist visa, which can be extended on Immigration for 30 more days

“If only back to 30 days is it possible to get a 60 day extension if you are living with long-term Girlfriend in her home”

****this isNOT possible! You can only receive a 60-days extension if you are MARRIED to a Thai wife. This extension is called “60-days extension based on family visit”

The fact that you are staying with your long term girlfriend in her home doesn’t actually look like tourism! I do it too but I wonder if they will use this to deny entry sometime.

yes it appears it will go back to 30. And each entry can be extended by 30 days. If/when it reverts, one visa exempt entry + extension + border bounce + extension = 120 days

no if it reverts back it's 30 on arrival + 30 extension then a border run 30 == 90

There was no mention of the standard extension changing from 30 to 60 days. I imagine it will remain a single 30 day extension per entry.

If it changes back to 30 days, and your goal is to stay 90 days, just apply for a single entry 60 day tourist visa in advance of travel, and apply for the usual 30 day extension once in Thailand, granting a total of 90 days.

It's correct that there was a story in the Bangkok Post and they are considering it. But nothing locked in or certain - just like the tourist tax and ETA, the government may change its mind multiple times.

abuse is the reason. They're curbing exploitation of the visa exemption scheme and to aline to typical tourist behavior, which is shorter than the initial 60-day period. How many tourists get 60 days vacations? How many tourists need to extend a 60 day visa and then boarder bounce for even more time?

Only press reports at this stage. No specifics on when or if it will be implemented.

Extensions for short term visa like exempt or tourist visa are for 30 days only (one time per entry).
