TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a marriage visa (NON-O visa) in Thailand, applicants must meet certain income or bank balance requirements. The basic criteria are either a minimum monthly income of 40,000 Baht or a bank balance of 400,000 Baht that must be proven to have been in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to applying. It has been pointed out that many immigration offices require this income to be earned in Thailand, although some may accept overseas income if it regularly transfers into Thailand. There are discussions about the complications associated with the marriage visa process compared to retirement visas, which may be viewed as easier despite higher financial requirements.

  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

I’m married too a Thai. We will be retiring too Thailand. But many people say don’t bother with marriage visa it is too many hoops too jump through. Many people say just go on the retirement extension visa even though need deposit 800,000 they say it’s way easier. So I’m still not sure what way to go

Fredy Fredy yes just have to read news those sort abound. But there's a large amount who appreciate thenlaid back atmosphere andnfor me, personally, the exchange rate means i don't have tonspend my best years in the rat race. I also studied Thai at undergraduate level so being able to connect with regular Thai people is a real pleasure. It's the simple things in life here. $1.50 gourmet coffe amd beach sunsets. Jogging on beach road. Clean, modern gym facilities access to certain pharmaceuticals that assit in all sorts of things. Local market food costs next to nothing, using my steamer to concuct nutritious recipes that would be exorbitant in the West. The genuine appreciation of a $10 tip and being known as a good customer and treated accordingly. Meeting weird and wonderful people from every corner of the world...list goes on.

Without a work permit you just need 400k in a Thai account for 3 months before you apply for the extension.

Some people seem to be misunderstanding me... I currently have a WP and a Visa/Ext, which is tied to the WP, so if I change jobs, the Visa/Ext becomes void. So, what I want to do is get a year Visa or a multi-entry visa based on marriage. Before, the multi-entry only required the marriage documents, no proof of income or money seasoned in the bank, but you had to do a border bounce every 90 days. Whereas a 12-month visa based on marriage requires the 800k, or 400k + earning, but there also used to be a third option of income only (which I think was 60k/month). Is this still the case?e

I think you confused things with your mention of working online. Let's just forget about that part for now as it's been previously covered. If you are currently on an extension of stay based on a Non-B visa you can simply change the reason for your extension at the next renewal to an extension based on marriage by meeting the requirements for that extension (you don't get a new visa at all) at your local immigration office. You can still hold a work permit on an extension based on marriage. For an extension based on marriage it's 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months before applying for the extension or 40k baht per month earned income, usually for a minimum of 3 months and proof of employment and tax payments in Thailand but it's best to ask your local immigration office for the actual requirements.

The multi-entry marriage visa is no longer available.

Colin Dorman if you wish to pursue thai citizenship its alot easier having a work permit - being married to a thai national makes it easier to obtain one thats just the easier route

Colin Dorman what you can do is.

Change your reason for 1yr extension from nonb "working" to Thai wife.

You then can use a WP and if you lose your job, you can cancel WP AND then use 400k in the bank.

*You can also change jobs without problem if it's at least 3 months before next extension to prove the income.

Basically you don't lose your "visa/extension" if you are not working.

This is a great advantage to having "thai wife" extension.

Talk to your local office for the exact process there.
