Looking for help. I studied in Thailand last year for 6 months on an ED Visa. The school, last time told me that it would be advisable for me to Cancel it before I left, and I did.
I Re-Entered Thailand on an ED visa again, however due to a Family Emergency I left Thailand in a hurry to return back to the USA after only 6 weeks. This time, I did not Cancel my visa. The lady at the Border Control area let me know that my visa was still good till June 28th and that I didn’t need to leave yet. I let her know that I had a family emergency and had to return home early. Nothing more was said and she waved me through.
It wasn’t until I got to the LA airport that I realized that I forgot to go to the Immigration Office and cancel it. I have read stories online about having problems after not canceling a visa and to be honest I’m a bit confused about it all.
Next time I come to Thailand I was planning on using a NON-O 90 day Visa to stay with my Thai wife. The question is, am I going to have problems getting this Visa now simply because I forgot to cancel my ED Visa?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about potential issues obtaining a NON-O 90-day Visa for staying with their Thai wife, due to having forgotten to cancel their previous ED Visa before leaving Thailand. They received mixed responses indicating that since they were on a single entry stamp for the ED Visa, leaving the country effectively cancels it, and they should be fine when applying for the NON-O Visa. It is recommended to consult their school about cancellation and ensure compliance with requirements for the new visa.
