Has anyone received any update or approval today at HCMC? Thank you all.
Answer summary
The conversation centers around the financial requirements for obtaining and renewing a Non-Immigrant "O" visa in Thailand, particularly focusing on the need to show either a monthly income of at least 40,000 THB or a bank deposit of 400,000 THB that has been in the account for a specific seasoning period. Users discuss varying practices among different immigration offices, with some insisting on both proofs, reflecting inconsistencies and stricter enforcement of regulations.

spend six months in Thai and you're in your country, it's no longer worth the one year visa...married to a Thai

I go to an agent and pay every year. Less problems and I don't need to go anywhere and I don't need to show a penny to them.

Basically depending on where you apply, things can differ slightly. Some immigration offices enforce that they only accept the 400,000 deposit and don't accept the 40,000 monthly and other immigration officers and locations allow both. I have heard of some requesting both, possibly due to misunderstanding.

Charles Michel that's really helpful advice...not! Of course I can handle it, it's the inconsistency between what the Thai police code states, what the handout from the Ubon Immigration Office states, and what individual Immigration Officers expect.

It would be great if all three were the same, but unfortunately they are not.

I'm surprised, most immigration have a written handout explaining the 400k position, I'm pretty sure the entire 400k must remain in your account at all times, since covid and the amount of falang unable to settle hospital bills, the rules changed to make sure we are never skint 🀣. As for being granted extension of stay, each immigration differs, but its never same day, more likely 2wks, my last extension went in on June 5th, picked it up 18th June, they also retain your passport in this time, give you a receipt and a day+time to return to collect it. Seeing 5-8wks in this thread, maybe different times of year cause a bigger back log

Osian Ledger They let me keep the passport and when its approved they call me back and stamp the extension...

what I do not understand is the request for both an income proof AND the deposit. Keep in mind your embassy does NOT certify your income, they do NOT issue income affidavits. So WHAT and WHY is the Ubon Immigration pulling such a requirement out of their noses? How would you be able to prove your income, if not with the embassy affidavit?

I know as a US citizen the US embassy does not give guarantees for income I think it just depends on the country of origin if you put 400,000 Thai baht in a bank a minimum of 2 months before you apply you should be good I don't know why they're asking for both the monthly income Plus the 400,000 Thai baht I think like the other gentleman mentioned earlier it really depends on the immigration officer and the office that you go to. I will be doing this in the next 18 months to 2 years my wife is Thai but I'm still working in the US I'm tied up here trying to sell things things may change from now till then you never know.

In my experience ........ 1) You will get an 'under consideration' stamp in your passport on the day you apply, providing all your paperwork is correct. Usually, if all is well, you go back for the definitive stamp around four weeks later. You might want to try and extend your current visa as you don't have enough time left on it and you don't want to be on overstay. Maybe your local immigration will take this into account for you. 2) As soon as I have the proper stamp I start spending the 400k the following day, never been a problem. Get the 40k/month international transfer started now so that it is all in place (12x transfers) for next year's application.

Very bizarre they told you this requirement. The law didn't change at all. I have many friends who live in ubon , all just do proof of monthly income. If you decide to deposit 400k 2 months before the visa and needs to be in the account all year long.

Your extension application may not be considered because of your visa expiry date ( 30 July) and 400k maturity date (19 July). You need to apply at least 3 weeks to 1 month prior to your visa expiry date. In that case your money maturity date has to be two months at least one day before the date of application. Once they refused me to accept a 1 day shortage of 2 months. Though my bank confirmed me that it was two months. Please check with your immigration office again. Please note that the information desk may not be able to answer your question.

way to go scaremongering, your situation is not the same, yours was an oversight by both u and your bank, man up and take responsibility yourself. I've never heard of the 3wk rule, you literally just made it up. On a 3m visa, money maturing for 2m, that gives you 1wk to enter the country find long-term digs and open an account, thats just BS, your application must go in before your 3m expires THAT'S IT, therefore people have nearly a month to get things sorted and get money transferred in to Thailand, allow it to stew for 2m then apply for extension

Osian Ledger , you should have read my comment and Mr. Alistair Grant's post attentively since our cases are the same. Thank you.

No you don't get it the same day you go back to immigration a month later and pick it up.

Usually they do a home visit for the first time.

As for money I only have to show the 400k in a Thai bank if you are from the UK like I am the British embassy in Bangkok does not verify income. So you have to go down the 400k in a Thai bank min 2 months before application and also afterwards .

Personally I keep mine in a seperate savings account and don't touch it .

When you renew your visa, the day you go immigration go to the bank first they will verify the money in your account. Don't just go immigration with your savings account book.

Some people use an agency. But I feel if you keep that 400k in a Thai bank and things don't turn out and you want to go home at least you have Β£10,000 in your pocket for a flight always think πŸ€” what if?

Some Embassies will supply you with a certificate of monthly revenue instead of having a Thai Bank Account. The diffivulty, the requirement vary from Officer to Officer rather than the Immigration bureau you dealing with. This can make it tricky as if the Officer in question gives you erronous information, you cannot double check it with another Officer

David Perrelet why are you talking about things that don't concern him, he has 400k in his bank account, your entire post is irrelevant

Osian Ledger that is your opinion. The fact is that proof of revenue does not lock you capital for 3 months. Furthermore, my post also refer to why the AND and OR happens.

So please pipe down with your condescending rebuffs.

I will be renewing my non - O based on marriage around the same time as your money becomes seasoned πŸ˜‚ I only have the 400k this will be the 3rd time for me and I’ve never had any trouble with it.

On the first occasion the did pay me a visit at home to check I lived where I said I did. I also had to have two witnesses (Thai nationals) that know me to sign me off as a good person. But they did say, most don’t have any ?
