Hi again,

Okay my visit at Immigration did not come out that well, IO said my second 1 year extension of stay can not be granted because the 800 000 baht have not been enough time on my Thai bank account.

IO told us instead to go to a neighbor country for a few days and apply for a new Non-Immigrant O Visa and then come back to Thailand.

If applying in Vietnam or Laos, is that at Thai Embassies or online?

How long does it usually take?

What kind of proof do they want about retired/pension?

Can I use the 800k on my Thai bank account as proof of income?

What are my options now, as I said I have the 800k on my account but only since 23rd October?

Is it not possible to just fly to Vietnam (no visa needed for me) for a few days and then come back visa exemption, go to Immigration in Saraburi and get a 30 day extension and after that apply for a 90-days Non-Immigrant O?

What am I missing here?

My first 1 year extension of stay stamp expire 17 November.

Sorry for a long one, again..

(Please also read my post below to get the whole picture)

Thanks.
Answer summary
After being denied a second one-year extension of stay, the individual is considering traveling to a neighboring country to apply for a new Non-Immigrant O Visa. They inquire about the application process in Vietnam or Laos, including required proof of income, the use of funds in a Thai bank account as proof, and the possibility of simply doing a border run for a 30-day extension before applying for the 90-day Non-Immigrant O Visa. Responses indicate that applying for the visa at an embassy is the correct approach, and highlight the importance of adequate financial documentation. Concerns about the immigration office's handling of cases and the use of agents for assistance are also discussed.

So why wouldn’t you go to an agent and get it sorted ?

My take, they want to know where the money came from. They can see it's from abroad, but not "why".Get your tax return from Skatteverket. You could also pull a specification from minPension.se.

Just proves if you were smart you would have used an agent and had no issues

Fly to another country and plan to be there for a month. Check the public holidays of that country and thailand as the embassy take both as holidays. Relax and enjoy a holiday. I recommend a month in Siem Reap. Start you application online and save it and submit it the day you arrive in the other country with picture of your boarding pass and visa stamp. It would cost the same to get an agent to do it but you would not get the same experience. Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam.... take your pick.

AFAIK the embassy letter requirement is only for converting from one visa type to another.

Ubon immigration didn’t ask for the letter when renewing a Non-O retirement.

Curt Thurston it’s not renewing a visa it’s gaining an extension of stay

Translation: use an agent! Would actually cost less than doing a new visa in another country. Even with money in my account, I still use an agent! No headaches, no “ come back again” no “ missing documents” no appointment, no queue nothing at all! One day a year totally worths the cost.

Mikael Olofsson Contact Thai Visa Centre, they're very good & reliable, have been around for many years and many people use them. They can give you the price and all the details. They're actually the owner/runner of this group. Look at the group's page & details to contact them directly if you're interested in an agent. I've used them before (not for a retirement visa) & they were really good & very organized.

Mikael Olofsson why would you have to “try to stay calm”? YOU are the one who is requesting something. YOU are the one who has communication/language issues. Do you really think they are going to be helpful in getting you into THEIR country when they see you getting angry? Follow the rules. They are just doing their job. Use an agent and simplify your life.

Here it is in a nutshell, if I imply what was left unsaid. A year ago the extension you obtained was the first one, and meeting the finacial requirement was based on the 800,000 baht deposit in a Thai bank account? Is that part correct? And was this extension acquired using the services of an agent to skirt you having had that 800,000 yourself? (The agent put the funds in a bank account in your name, temporarily, and those funds were withdrawn once the necessary banks docs were supplied.) Is this the case?

If so, this extension for which you are applying CAN NOT be based on the 65K monthly deposits from abroad. And you would still be required to show you fulfilled the '800K three months after and two months prior' re this extension.

So if my assumption is correct, your best bet is to use the agent again.

And if I'm wrong about your having used an agent last year, excuse me. But this info will be good for those in that situation.

Bottom-line, the requirements for the 80OK deposit and 65K monthly deposits should (can't ever say must, haha) be run in parallel for a year before one can switch to getting to the extension based on the monthly deposits.

Beay Dudish No not correct, I used that "Embassy letter" together with 2 months transfers of 65 000 baht.

No agent used, so far.

Mikael Olofsson Reason of your lack of luck might be something like this if i'm not mistaken :

** if you had done your first extension with proof of funds of 800k you had to keep that balance until doing your new extension to proof that you met the requirements of your first extension even tough you transfered 65k on a month basis (like someone else here said that you have to run the 2 methods in parralel for one year when you switch)

** since you did your first extension with an Embassy letter and 2 months of transfers, Immigration is probably applying the same (twisted) logic where they want to see again the same proof of funding (aka Embassy Letter in your case) that you presented originally. It practically doens't make much sense outside an archaic and retarded bureaucratic mindset , but i sense that their refusal is based on some interpreted technicality like that. And they don't care that your embassy stoped issuing letters.... TIT
Beay ********
Beay ********
Mikael Olofsson OK, got it. And can you not use the embassy letter again this time?

And, how about a few dates nere. 1) On which date did your account reach 800,000 baht? And 2) On which date does your current extension expire?

If before the expiration date, and preferably a few days before because you never want to leave things to the last day, and the date of reaching 800K in the bank account there is a two-month spread, then you should be able to apply then, at the time of a two-month spread.

If that's not possible, then the embassy letter should work for you. Immigration is well within its jurisdiction of asking you to provide proof of the pension transfers as well. Not sure if it must be 'pension payments' only. Many folks just transfer the 65K monthly from abroad, and these are not necessarily pension payments.

Otherwise, if your IO is telling you to start over, and you are going to continue with residing in that area, it's probably best to take their advice.

I just re-read your earlier post. I see it will not be possible for a two-month spread between reaching 800K and the expiry of your current extension.

You have two options. Employ the services of an agent to get the extension, which will present itself with issues for later extensions. The other option is to start over.

Seems only Laos and Vietnam are the most viable for someone in your situation, applying for a 90-day non-O. You would apply online after being in-country. Laos seems to have a good turnaround time frame, and you have to visit the embassy in Vientiane once. I think in Vietnam (HCM) everything is done online, you don't have to visit the consulate.

Your 800K in the Thai bank should suffice for the funds requirement.

Sad to see they did not keep their word, as you told us 5 days ago they would accept it if you put the 800,000 THB into your account just a bit too late. Saraburi Immigration? You are the third person reporting that this office is pixilated and treating some applicants in an unfair manner. Another bad point on their side, being that they don't allow you to just do a border run, re-enter visa exempt and be allowed to do the "change of visa type" from the exempt entry to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O with proof of the 800,000 already sitting in your Thai bank account. Why they tell you do take the more complicated route?

It's definitely ok for 65k a month, recorded with international code. For 15 years I never had a problem...and we have used about 10 different offices over the years. It sounds like they are questioning the source of your income. " balance of 800 000 baht OR have a letter from my Swedish Embassy to show that money comes from my pension." I would provide the letter...since you don't have 800,000 on deposit. They don't accept a letter from my US Embassy anymore. No problem. I bring proof of my military retirement, VA disability and Social Security. (Printed from their websites). They look, but never question and never keep copies of that. I guess Swedish Embassy still can do that service.

Nope. His post specifies that they wanted a letter from the Swedish consulate...look at the 3rd paragraph. "When came to Immigration officer told us I also need to show a balance of 800 000 baht OR have a letter from my Swedish Embassy to show that money comes from my pension." That refers to the 65k he deposited monthly. He is asking why immigration will not accept his monthly deposits. Plain and simple

Read his post again. He wondered why his 65k a month was not acceptable. You are going a different path. The other option...everyone knows...is the 800,000 balance. Two different animals..my friend

Michael Arseneau yes plane and simple. The 800k has to be in the account long enough, untouched to count ! You did not see the “or”? I believe held for 3 months. It can be drawn down to (i believe) 600k but brought back to 800k 3 months before renewal.

I believe you. lol However..his post says this: "When came to Immigration officer told us I also need to show a balance of 800 000 baht OR have a letter from my Swedish Embassy to show that money comes from my pension." I don't know if it's possible to get a 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office in Saraburi as not all immigration offices are allowed to issue them, I'd have thought they'd have mentioned it if they could. Regardless it's a fair bit more hassle in any case.

You can apply for the Non-O in Vietnam if that's where you prefer to go, and yes you can show your finances in a Thai bank.

All visa applications are done online and you usually need to show proof (stamp in passport) that you are inside the country. For Laos you have to attend the consulate to pay after submitting your application as neither consulate there accepts online payments so you'll need baht for that

Mikael Olofsson you need to allow at least 15 business days for areas served by the Ho Chi Minh embassy. They used to be much quicker, but now they are slower. On about day 15, they will ask for further proof that you are still in Vietnam (a selfie with a receipt showing the date and location in Vietnam) Probably easier to do it from Laos.
