Hello expats, i currently live in thailand and im planning to go to my country for 3 weeks. Im curious about the covid insurance, as it seems that you need 100k usd coverage to enter thailand for the length of your stay, but it doesnt really say what is the case for long term expats in thailand.

Im currently staying on a non-b 1 year extension based on work permit. Anyone knows whats the deal?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the requirement for COVID-19 insurance for long-term expats in Thailand. It specifically highlights the need for a minimum coverage of $100,000 for the duration of the visa upon re-entry. Comments clarify that the insurance should cover the entire period of the current visa extension and emphasize the importance of obtaining a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand to maintain coverage consistency.

You will be stamped on same date on your current admitted stamp upon your entry Thailand if you get re-entry permit before you leave. You would need insurance covering the days same to your current extension, not 1 year.

If you don’t get reentry permit, you need insurance covering period whatever are going to enter Thailand on..

I’ve been told that you will need insurance to cover the whole length of your visa. They really didn’t think this one through. But it was confirmed by immigration

you got your wires crossed slightly.

Immigrations doesn't have a dog in this fight, it's the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office <- the people that run the consulates and issue the Certificates of Entry that control the length you need to be insured for.

The length of time you need to be covered on covid insurance has nothing at all to do with the VISA <- the sticker from the thai consulate.

EXAMPLEZ:

1 - If you have a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa, while the visa sticker itself is valid for a year you can only get stamped in on it for 90 days each entry <- meaning you would only need 90 days of covid insurance (the amount of time you'll get stamped in for

2 - If you had a year long, multi-entry Non-O-A (long stay) visa, while the visa sticker itself is valid for a year your entry stamp on that type of visa is also a year <- meaning you would need to carry a year of covid insurance (and the mandatory health insurance required for that visa type).

3 - IF you had a 90 day single entry tourist visa, while the visa sticker itself is valid for 90 days your entry stamp on that visa is only for 60 days <- meaning you'd need 60 days of covid insurance.

So basically my re-entry based on the months I have left on my extension is gonna cost me a
*****
baht plus a reentry permit. Great. Thanks Thailand.

yes it’s your option 2 I’m talking about that was the case. We called embassy, ministry, immigration and they all said it’s not them to decide or don’t know. Bottom line is it’s stupid and only works for tourists not for long stayers this way

@Vincent **************
it's not my opinion, that's how it's handled. So who ever is telling you this doesn't know what they're saying.

totally works the same way for long stayers,

You need insurance for as long as your current extension/re-entry permit are valid for when you come back OR you're only gonna get stamped in until your insurance runs out

Many people have insurance which they renew each year but this could be before an extension renewal so when it’s time to get the yearly renewal people wouldn’t be able to show a full years insurance . Let’s hope common sense would prevail .

You answered your question.
Tod *********
you need to carry the 100K USD covid insurance for the length of time you're going to get stamped back in for when you come back.

SO that would be as long as your current extension is valid for.
