TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand on a Non-O visa with a 1-year extension, you do not need to acquire new health insurance aside from the COVID-19 insurance. The key requirement upon your return is to have at least $100,000 in COVID-19 insurance. You will be using a re-entry permit instead of obtaining a new visa.

As it is now, no, You're not buy a new visa, you'd be getting a re-entry permit and comin' back on an existing extension of stay.

You'd only need the 100K USD in covid insurance and the rest of the entry requirements

thx, my password expires april 15 of 2022, I just need 6 months of validity to re-enter Thailand correct?

Nope
@Ric****
you need as much time left on your passport as you'll be stamped into the country for

SO if your extension expires Jan 2022, your passport needs to be valid until that date.

*** I would get a new passport while you are in the USA, because you will need it for your next application for an extension of stay permit before the current one expires by January 2022

the 100K USD in covid insurance needs to cover the full period left on your extension of stay, i.e. until January 2022, as you will be stamped in for the full period left until then
