Do you have to leave Thailand every 3 months on a DTV visa?

If so, can you do a land border run for just a few minutes?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Holders of the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) do not need to leave Thailand every three months, but they can do a border run if desired. The DTV is a multiple entry visa that allows for a maximum stay of 180 days per entry, which can be extended for another 180 days once. After reaching the total of 360 days, a holder must leave the country to initiate a new period of stay. Additionally, there are specific reporting requirements every 90 days. However, the extension process can vary by immigration office, and some may have additional requirements.

WOW, why is it so difficult to share official rules about a visa.

DTV is a multiple entry visa valid for 5 years, starting on day of issue.

The visa gives you a period of maximum 180 days of stay in Thailand.

This 180 day period can be extended once with another 180 days at local Immigration.

IF you stay the maximum, you have to leave every 360 days to start a new period of 180 plus 180 days.

Do not let you misguide you by people who tell you otherwise.

It is easy to get a 180 day Extension of Stay at Immigration, the only thing you have to do is hand over the genuine documents that allows you to stay in Thailand.

KindMango4098 Yes, within 24 hours of residing at an address and when you are 90 days inside the country, you report at local Immigration.

Nothing to do with the period of stay you get on entry or with an Extension of Stay.

Nope, you explain the difference in nonsense and reality.

But you pick your favorite of nonsense.

BTW Read the question and my answer. I explained how a DTV works and that leaving every 90 days is not needed.

Not so simple to extend.. Some offices just send people away, others demand 500k in a Thai bank, which a DTV doesnt support..

Kind of hard to meet those demands for many DTV holders.

NOT as the nicknamed dtv holders who have no clue about rules or think that rules are only made for others.

Until they found out at an Immigration Office.

NO, but agree that people get send away if they can not meet any of the requirements, soft power does not mean 6 months payments to a gym for a nearly 6 year stay working on line.

Genuine applicants will get a 180 day Extension of Stay,

Learn about your requirements as a Thai bank account is NOT listed.

Chiang mai wanted a local bank account with 500k about 2 weeks ago.

My brother went, and has a local bank, but didn't have the 500k in it, so just went to border instead. Unfortunately he didn't clear up if they had any seasoning demands as he was not going to send in the 500k (leaving in a couple of weeks).

For them at least it was a requirement. He has 500k in the same non Thai account he used to apply, not accepted.

The requirements are posted from the beginning of the DTV.

So why is it not simply?

It is not hard to read that a minimum of 500.000 Thb in a bank account is needed.

all I am pointing out is that some offices (Chiang mai at least) said that the balance had to be a local Thai bank account.

Which presents many dtv holders with a problem. It also makes for an easy 'go away' response.

We can believe that demand is wrong, we can believe that Chiang mai should accept overseas account balances, but at least in that attempt, 2 or so weeks ago, that was the demand.

Anecdotally I feel local immigration offices are resistant to dtv extensions possibly more than other classes. The newness of the visa class, the fact it's an MFA project, all might be why (just guessing).

You gain 180 days per entry.. At the end of the 180 days it is possible, but very hard, to extend that another 180 days one time, in general its so hard most people, and I think 99%, just do a border bounce at the 180 day mark and get a new 180 day arrival.
