Hello, My retirement visa is coming due on the first of June and I am thinking about relocating to Cambodia. I just don't know if it is in my best interest to leave Thailand before the date or obtain a new visa with a re entry in case I decide to return to Thailand? what advice would you give? TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is contemplating whether to leave Thailand before their retirement visa expires on June 1st or to obtain a new visa with a re-entry option in case they decide to return. Community members suggest weighing the pros and cons of moving to Cambodia versus the benefits of renewing the visa in Thailand. An option discussed includes obtaining a single re-entry permit to maintain the ability to return without restarting the visa process, emphasizing that there's no limit on how long you can stay outside the country as long as the re-entry permit is valid.

May be true but I've had about enough of Thailand. At least in Cambodia I can work without having to jump through multiple hoops, visa is much easier, I can legally own a business and no 90 day check's.
Good Luck, I still would get a final year extension here and a single re-entry permit before you bail out of the country.
Things aren't always as good as they seem.
You think this place (thailand) is a developing third world country, Cambodia isn't even classified as developing it's just plain and simple third world.
Cambodia makes Thailand look like the USA in comparison. For about $90 dollars US why not get another extension and a re-entry permit. You just never know how things will work out. Worst case you blew 90 bucks and you never come back.
BUT what is the down side to getting a new yearly extension and at least a single re-entry permit? It costs 2900baht AND if cambodia doesn't work out you'd be able to come back and get stamped right back in on your extension without having to start all over from scratch
that's great. I just don't want to find myself with a flight ticket on hand and immigration denying me the 2nd single re-entry permit while the plane is waiting.
yes you can. We only get single entry because it is extremely rare for us to leave more than once a year. It takes 3 trips out of Thailand to recoup the cost of a multiple entry vs a single entry.
there is no limit, you can get your yearly extension, leave the country that day and as long as you hvae a re-entry permit and come back before the extension expires you're stamped in until the expiration date
