TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the best ATMs to use in Thailand to minimize withdrawal fees, especially for users of the Starling card. Most ATMs charge around 220 baht per transaction, but some, like Aeon, charge only 150 baht. Users suggest withdrawing cash over the counter at banks like Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank to avoid ATM fees altogether. Recommendations include keeping withdrawal amounts large to reduce transaction fees and ensuring the ability to withdraw larger sums at bank counters.

Use the card inside the bank I believe you can draw more than 30,000 baht

You can enter most banks and withdraw cash from your overseas debit card with just your card and your passport. This way you avoid atm fees. I have done this at Bangkok Bank at Airport Plaza, Pathip Plaza and Tesco Kamthieng and at Kasikorn Bank in Nimman and Promenada

I have heard from others that Starling works for this. Not all cards do, I have cards that work but others that don't.

not sure about that. My Australian debit card has a visa chip, not sure if that helps, but drawing money out over the counter is not using the credit function as far as I know. I used this method for almost 2yrs and didn't experience any hidden charges

its much easier to send all funds into an account and hold a debit card from a thai bank cheapest solution, if i get stuck and have to use my HSBC from singapore the fees are stupid per transactions where 500 thb or 10,000 thb withdrawal or more fees are like
*******
thb per atm transaction ridiculous so better to send one large amount and draw down on it.

obviously if money say coming from the UK and you have a good friend here you could deposit funds into their UK account and they credit you here THB... one way to consider. i have had friends here who gave me thb and i just gave them cash elsewhere nothing sinister just we do better deals together and not pay banks their commission or percentage how small..

My problem will be that I have no large funds only a monthly income that I had hoped would be easy and cheapish to draw on a Starling card... it seems the wrong way to go sadly...

Yes, it should be. Just have to find a branch that will do it without a fee. I'd try Bangkok Bank, they have done it for me before.

Starling do have no fees, the 220B fee is from the Thai bank and they have no control over that.

Yep. Its 220 baht per withdrawl regardless of amount. So the more you take out each time the better with a foreign card.

Or open a thai Bank account and transfer lump sums to it.

The 1.1 or lower was just an example if you took out the max 20k or it’s lower if you take out 30k

£100 is roughly 3,700 baht. You’d still be charged 220 baht.

So if I take out £100 at a time will that be 1.1% or nigh on £6?

@Tony ******
Krungsri (yellow ones) let you take out 30,000 at a time. Most others allow 20,000 so a 1.1% or lower hit isn’t so bad.
