First time visa runner. Going into another country (Malaysia) how to exchange money? Do I bring many crispy 1,000 THB notes and exchange at one of the exchange counters or take money out of an ATM? I have Bangkok bank.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the best methods for exchanging Thai Baht (THB) for Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) during a visa run to Malaysia. Key suggestions emerge, such as using ATMs in Malaysia which allow free withdrawals, or exchanging currency at money changers in Thailand, particularly at places like Superrich which offer low fees. There were also considerations about carrying crisp THB notes and advice about converting only the necessary amounts for expenses while ensuring to avoid conversion fees.

just take out cash in malaysia, or pay by card, what's the problem?

Exchange in Thailand at Superrich. They charge negligible fees, especially for THB to other currency transactions. Malaysia is close to Thailand and their currency is decent enough to get a good rate in Thailand.

Just take baht there are money exchangers there. Just exchange what you need. Probably have to pay for the visa in Ringgit ask at immagration

ATM's are free withdrawals in Malaysia. Just take out what you need when you get there.

Thai banks normally charge you 2.5% for withdrawing foreign currency. That the ATM doesn't add anything is still nice though.

they are, that's why I'm telling them it's free. Their own bank may charge them but the Bank ATM's in Malaysia don't charge like in Thailand. Like anywhere there are ATM's in shops that may charge but all the banks ATM's don't.

I always decline conversion as I get a really good rate through my own bank so not sure what the banks rates are like here.

Got visa runs, I have never exchanged money. Remember, when you do that you get less money each time in return.

I will apply for DTV in Malaysia and plan stay there for a week. Not just a simple visa run.
