TLDR : Answer Summary
When considering the cheapest way to exchange UK pounds to Thai Baht in Pattaya, many users recommend using Wise due to its favorable exchange rates and lower fees compared to traditional methods such as currency booths. However, several comments suggest that specific exchange booths like Superrich might offer competitive rates as well. Additionally, some expats mention the reliability and safety of services like Western Union. Overall, while individuals can opt for Wise for electronic transfers, cash exchanges at well-known booths like TT and Superrich may still provide better rates, particularly if one monitors exchange rates closely.
I send by western union to myself and pick it up there. Nice and safe

If you send money to your wise account and then take it out it has a limit of free withdrawals. I believe they are just two and then you get charged. So if in Bangkok I take out the 2 free withdrawals I still get charged the 250baht fee is it still better than taking cash and exchange there?

Always better and without fees to change cash.

If you'd care for your safety, I would transfer the bulk of the money to your Thai bank account using WISE or Western Union, by the account-to-account method. The diffrence to a cash exchange at a TT-Exchange booth is Pattaya is almost nonexistent !

Don’t worry, all the exchange booths have the rates posted highly visibel, so easy to glance at them, and not be restricted to only use the same compagny everytime, since the differences isn’t big enough to go out of your way, to exchange.

Starling account from UK. Good rates and can withdraw at the counter of Krungsi bank with passport for no fee.
oh and regards difference with exchange rate. I used to take out around 7,000 THB each week as that was my budget. The difference from the true rate and what I got with my withdrawal was around 40p for that amount with Starling. Pretty good really as you never get the true rate. Works out about 0.25% difference.
transferring with WISE from bank account to bank account is MARGINALLY better than transferring using the same method, with WU. You can really ignore the difference

My biggest issue with using a bank card to access money instead of western Union is the simple fact that in most places you can only take a out a few hundred at a time.
that is a one time introductory rate. The normal WU exchange rate is 36.37 but they are using a one time intro rate of 36.96. Without the intro rate, the amount received would be THB 72,740. Up to you.
but my question is how competitive is the exchange rate ? When I used WU before, the fees were low but the exchange rate was 3 to 5 % lower resulting in a substantial loss in received funds
you should also factor in the exchange rate differences, not just the cost to transfer, not sure of the cost of the transfer from USD to THB, but GBP to THB the exchange rate differences makes it worth eating the extra cost to transfer as I still get more even with the extra cost.

Just type the amount in the Wise app, and you will get the informations.
incorrect. At any time WISE can suspend your account and basically steal your money. Happened to me about two years ago. Had been using them for 5+ years also. No explanation and no avenue to contact them get a response. Googling it showed that many others have also copped this
