TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding appropriate health insurance for UK retirees in Thailand. Recommendations include notable companies like Axa, Aia, and Pacific Cross. Expat advisers emphasize declaring pre-existing conditions and warn against choosing local Thai insurers. The expected insurance costs for decent policies range from 100,000 to 150,000 baht per year per person. Individual experiences with premiums and coverage levels highlight the importance of tailored options.

I'm 68 and pay an average decent insurance, no cover as out patient nor dental, cost 8500 baht per month. Pay 5000 a night for room, many hospitals cost more

If you have preexisting conditions it may not be worth it

go to the websites of each insurer and read coverage details. Be aware if you take high blood pressure medication you are not covered for stroke equally if you take cholesterol medication you are not covered for heart disease, etc. That’s their definition of preexisting conditions.

Are there any companies that cover pre-existing conditions?

Also, what makes you say it may not be worth it? Trying to get my head around what’s on offer and so much conflicting advice.

Would welcome your experience?

Expect premiums to be 100-150k per annum per person for a decent policy.

Hi Pete - is it fair to assume that the estimated costs you’ve shared are for policies without pre-existing condition and pre-existing?

100-150k bht is approximately £2300-3500.

The higher cost (150k) seems a lot if it excludes pre-existing.

you can forget about any pre-existing conditions being covered, you will be self paying for those.

you are in a Thai group discussing Thai issues and the question is about getting Thai insurance in Thailand, why would you think my answer would be anything other than in Thai currency?
