How much per month would be health insurance for 55-60 years old and what kind? Any recommendations?
Answer summary
The monthly cost of health insurance for expats aged 55-60 in Thailand varies widely based on factors such as health status, type of coverage, and personal circumstances. Prices reported range from around 52,000 to 150,000 THB annually, depending on whether coverage is inpatient only or includes outpatient services. Recommendations include policies from companies like Cigna, AXA, and AIA Health Happy, with some users suggesting a comprehensive international policy for better value. Key considerations include the risk of omitting outpatient coverage, especially concerning potential future health issues.

BeautifulKiwi9728 The laws in Thailand are very strict on libel/ slander even if you are right, naming a company Thai and what they do can land you in trouble been right is no defence here, there is a reason why the Thai company insurance is much cheaper

I recommend a plan from the local insurance company called ‘AIA Health Happy,’ which you can contact your trusted agent to get a quote. Premiums depend on your age and gender.

I’m with Krungthai/AXA, size of the bike doesn’t matter for the insurance. If you want my agents contact, send me a pm.

I would say a half decent health insurance at that age would start at 55k. That would be at a push too. Might be closer to 65k and again that's a starting price

OP
What if just put away some money every month and pay in case of health issues ? We are very healthy and rarely go to doctors here, in USA. We hope to do the same in Thailand. Just pay out of pocket if needed. What do you guys think?

BeautifulKiwi9728 one accident and you could be bankrupt. But it is definitely a personal choice.

With no preexisting conditions and with a coverage of 100’ USD I would believe you can find an affordable insurance- 50’ THB yearly. I have one paying 60’ yearly and am 70.

Alexander DThornerian hi could u dm me please regarding your insurance company

Ken Withers check with Wrlife. It’s the absolute cheapest international health insurance country in Thailand. The current premium will not increase with higher age and if no claim. If a claim an increase if3% might apply. Choose a plan of minimum 100’ as the cheaper ones have limitations

I have Cigna for now and I am in that age range. No exclusions, inpatient only and a big deductible. Basically catastrophic coverage. $200ish. I may look around when the year is up to see if I can do better.

Heather Howard I wanted something like that but didn't find anything, don't mind 500,000 thb deductable if I can get something with something like 10m cover and at a reasonable price

I'd use an agent that can search for you. My deductible is 7500 USD.

Impossible to say. There are so many variables. State of your health, amount of cover you want, inpatient only, both inpatient and outpatient.

It all depends

I have found if you have any chronic diseases (high blood pressure etc) you can omit it from the policy which will bring down the price significantly

You can also omit outpatient treatment which brings down the cost significantly

So ask questions and negotiate
Kerry *********
Kerry *********
Potpong_Life the risk in omitting coverage of outpatient treatments is that most cancer treatments other than surgery are done on an outpatient basis and are very expensive even in Thailand.

Kerry Davison if you don’t have cancer it’s not a game changer

Potpong_Life not having full coverage of cancer care is a big hole in a healthcare plan. That you dont have cancer now is meaningless - the purpose of insurance is to cover expensive things that might happen, and cancer is a big one that is not rare as people age.

Potpong_Life all health insurance is a risk

They will drop you for any reason so why pay more

Plus I have another insurance that picks up the tab on a reimbursement basis

So I’m good

Potpong_Life yes, but omiting any chronic deseases like high blood pressure doesn‘t reduce the premium price at all and in addition if any health issue arises they will always put it on due to the high blood pressure and no claim possibility.

Sue Heimchen crazy

It worked for me it dropped my price significantly

But you believe what you want to
Dron ******

Potpong_LifeI think you're missing Sue's point. Sure, it lowers your premium, but it risks giving the insurance company an excuse to reject future claims based on your high blood pressure. You're trading a small reward now for a much higher risk of rejection later.
