I went to multiple branches of Bangkok bank today, but they all refused to open a bank account with my DTV visa, does anyone know any branch where I can open an account?

Also on my entry stamp with they put a date for six months only, I thought this visa was for five years. I got it directly from the consulate without using an agent so I’m completely unaware. How long can I stay in the country and I how often do I have to leave the country and is it mandatory to purchase health insurance? I’m sorry it’s a lot of questions, but any assistant will be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is struggling to open a bank account with a DTV visa and seeks clarification on the visa's validity and stay terms. Commenters explain that the DTV is a 5-year visa allowing 180-day stays per entry, after which users must leave or apply for an extension. Banks are generally reluctant to open accounts for holders of a DTV. Recommendations include seeking smaller banks in less urban areas and emphasizing the need for immigration documentation. Health insurance is not mandatory, but travel insurance is advised. Users can manage their stay by either obtaining a visa extension or opting for border runs.

How about you take more notice of what you sign up for, to not know the basics of a visa you selected tells me you aren't a genuine user of that particular visa.

On tiktok there is a woman with partner on a DTV they got one in Chaing Mai but can't remember which bank

She was stating they moved here for 5 yrs and when I advised her of the 180 day rule she blocked me 😆

it's not possible by yourself, just pay an agent. DTV is a tourist visa

A DTV does not require health insurance. I'd suggest you read up on extending the visa in-county vs heading out of the country and re-entering, well before your first 180 days are up. Now, would be a good time.

You have a better chance at small city banks, I suggest calling Bangkok and Kasikorn banks in places like Suphanburi, Saraburi, Petchaburi etc. once you locate a friendly bank, you will need an immigration letter to be able to open bank account there

From posts that I have seen it’s basically 99.5% impossible to open a Thai bank acct with the DTV at the moment…if you’re just looking to pay with the QR scanning there are apps you can D/L to facilitate that…health insurance is not required but I would recommend getting at least a travel insurance…if you want to bypass reporting at your local Sotomor just do border bounces as opposed to showing all the necessary documentation to the I/O at your local Sotomor prior to the visa needing a renewal…good luck

The visa is valid for 5 years. You get 180 days stay entry each time. It's in the info you got before, and also when, you applied.

So you applied for and paid at least 10,000 baht for a visa you don't understand at all?

The DTV is a 5-year multiple entry visa. Each entry gives you permission to stay for 180 days. Just because the visa is valid for 5 years doesn't mean you get to stay for 5 years. After 180 days you would either need to leave and return to get a new stamp, or apply for an extension at your local immigration office using all of the same paperwork you used to get your visa, but with it all updated. You can only apply for an extension one time per entry.

The DTV is a tourist visa, and banks are generally not willing to open accounts for tourists. You will most likely have to pay an agent to assist you in getting a bank account if you want one.
