This may not be the right place to ask this? But I bet someone knows.
I currently use Western Union to send money to Thailand.
Is there a cheaper way?
I know some of you boneheads are going to make some stupid remarks?
I’m waiting? 😂😂😂 555

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around finding cheaper alternatives to Western Union for sending money to Thailand. Several users recommend using Wise, previously known as TransferWise, for its low fees and good exchange rates. Others mention options like cryptocurrency, bank transfers, and services like Azimo as potential alternatives. Key points include the necessity of considering transaction fees, exchange rates, and reliability of services. Overall, Wise seems to be the most frequently recommended service, praised for its efficiency and affordability.
Hi Gene, 1. Crypto. The whole reason behind crypto is facilitate movement of funds without paying transaction costs that are outdated (given current technology). I know most people use it as a speculation vehicle..but that's like day-trading yahoo stock in 1993! So use wise this time. But making a series of videos on how to use crypto in daily life. ITS EASY. I'll post them on Thai Expat sites in August. 2. I like 'bonehead' remarks, btw - isn't that what FB is for?
You are exactly right.I am always using crypto money is going very safe and secure.

Crypto market the best and cheapest way.Money will be in your thai bank account just in 2 3 minutes and just 0.5percent

One other advantage of what I described above is that the U. S. Social Security Admin has designated CFSB as a Direct Deposit bank for your monthly Social security benefits. This works for any government, military or private pension fund.
JD ********
Example - an American who gets the Wise Borderless Account gets a Wise sponsored limited use checking account at at Wise Partner Bank (usually the Community Federal Savings Bank NY NY. (CFSB). You are issued an Account number that begins with 8. You get sent the CFSB ACH Routing Number (Automated Clearing House. This means that anyone in the USA who needs to Send you money can do so with a super simple and cheap ACH funds transfer to your Borderless Account Bank. The neat thing about this is that as soon as the money clears CFSB - the funds automatically enter your Wise Borderless Account. You are sent signals and emails that the money has arrived. You then go online or use the Wise App and SEND the money to any Predefined Recipient Bank or Wallet that you have defined anywhere in the world - Thailand, etc.
JD ********
If you opt for the Wise Borderless Account you can pause the money flow - then split the funds into parts sending some to 2-3 different Predefined Recipient Banks... (anywhere in the world - even to a bank back in the Home country.
There's a group specifically aimed at (Transfer)Wise solutions for Thailand.

I use Western Union and it is only £1.90 each time. Maybe you need to set up an account or change the account somehow.
Of course the fee is irrelevant as it is the exchange rate that is more important.

Wise, takes minutes.

Azimo... Been using them for a long time now... Almost always took 3 days when transferring but at the minute can be in the bank in half an hour,, less traffic it seems... Once they have your details it is so easy, do not even have to put card details in.. I used transfer wise before but I find this site flawless...

I used western union until recently. But their rate has really gotten low. Switch to wise. Very easy and better rate Evan with the fee
Contact "Transfer Wise", good exchange rate, efficient, pollite, I've used them 4 times, never a problem. Tell them that I told u about them. PS, They're now called "Wise"
Not on the exchange rate compared to western Union if you’re with a good bank. My bank charged around 20 euros but you made up for it with a good exchange rate. This how a used to pay my condo bills and transfer to my thai bank .

I have tried everything and outside opening a Thai account and sending it electronically, there is no better or safer way other than Western Union. If you can, transfer it to Thai bank account or an account outside Thailand that she has access to

If you want to know the best rates then check out monito.com. Monito is like a search engine for money transfer companies (see attached screen shot.) You can compare who has the best rates but how long it takes for you to receive the funds and reliability are also things to consider. I hope this helps.
welcome. Also something to consider is that if you are using the 65K THB a month as proof of retirement monetary qualifications method, you need to make sure the deposit will be flagged as an international deposit. That being said, even though I'll receive about 500 THB less than the cheapest company, I personally use Wise for their speed and my monthly deposits (so far) always show up as international deposits in my BKK Bank account, when I choose the "Long Term Stay in Thailand" option in the Wise app.

You could buy cryptocurrency with your fiat and send it to the receiver the receiver needs a cryptocurrency wallet- cash out to bank...
If you have any questions message me- I day trade cryptocurrency and have been involved and using it since 2017
This was my suggestion. She will need a cryptocurrency exchange account, to offramp the crypto you send her into Baht in a bank, but it shouldn't be difficult to do, and it will cost you PENNIES to send her money.
Also, she can avoid offramping via a bank by exchanging the crypto for cash with a trusted P2P partner. (Charge will be 1-2%) This is a not uncommon side-business for people all over the world.
Bruce *************
Thanks for Bitazza, will check it out. Yes P2P is common all over the world. Better to network with others, find trusted providers, etc. A very easy form of 'banking'.
Dan ********
Wise trades at about 1% above the interbank rate, so hard to beat pricewise. And now 'powered by' Monzo I believe, who have matching rates. And I have Revolut, which are a fraction pricier, but you wont notice unless your sending 4m+ baht. Revolut have come to my rescue a number of occasions, where wise is delayed due to weekend hours - get your transfer done before close of play thurs, Thai time, or could face delays with Wise.
Once you have the account on an exchange and you have coin (such as USDT) in it, then it's only a few commands to get it sent. The more security features you've opted for (which is better) the more strokes.
Anyone interested- use Bitazza (Thai cryptocurrency exchange)

Definitely wise for all transfers. I send money every month.
Western union is unbelievable how much they charge.
If it’s a really large amount ask you bank how much it is to send. Wise wasn’t around when I brought my land but the bank fees were not so bad for the amount sent.

I think it depends on what country you are in. WU is really expensive and bad rates here but if I need to ensure direct transfer not that many choices... Remittance seems to be done by some here due to high amount of guest workers by small actors so I would not limit myself to the big ones if you really after best rate/fee.
Personally I use Wise but might have to compare again soon just feel it is so convenient. I also use their card for better rates abroad.
Neil *********
Use an app called wise. Used to be called transfer wise by far the best rates and cheapest also. Simple app to pop on your phone.
Don’t entertain anything else other than that

Largely depends on the amount you are trying to send, the frequency you want to send, and the time frame you are trying to send it in. I still use Western Union to pay for my apartment despite not being in the country. Are there better options? Most likely. WU has been reliable though and I know I can use their services to send money at the drop of a hat. Also curious to hear other's opinions and experiences, but I think I pay like $6 for a transaction once a month. Nothing too crazy.

Compare Wise and western union. Historically Wise (formerly transferwise) was cheaper but I just compared one myself and western union was a bit cheaper.
