Hi folks, I’m trying to get some advise on money transfers from the US to a Thai bank account. What US banks have you had the best success with? Or what transfer app do you suggest? My existing banks either have have low exchange rates or do not do international transfers and cannot connect to WISE so far. Suggestions?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around effective methods for transferring money from the U.S. to Thailand. Users recommend using Wise for its ease, affordability, and speed, noting that it allows transfers at competitive exchange rates. Some mention the option of using debit cards or linking U.S. bank accounts to Wise. Alternatives like Moneygram are suggested for low amounts with reasonable rates. There are discussions on capabilities with specific banks and personal experiences, highlighting Wise as a preferred choice for many.

If you use this screen and then continue, a screen with possible payments pop up. Even a creditcard (bit more expensive I guess) is possible. You only need to make your Thai bankaccount, your recipent. Not need, although possible ofcourse, to make a usd account within Wise.

Moneygram is alright for low amounts. Decent exchange rate, though normally slightly less than wise.

"cannot connect to WISE so far" Is the wrong understanding ! Just initiate a WISE transfer USD-THB to Thailand and then transfer the money from your local account to the LOCAL (US) address that WISE gives you !

Register with WISE and then you can either transfer the money with the best available rates to pretty much any bank account worldwide or, also interesting, hold the money in different currencies in the so called: "borderless" or "multicurrency" account and then withdraw with their card in local currencies, wherever you travel. If you use my referral link, the first transfer up to 600 USD is free for you. Anyone else is also invited to use the link of course, for a free first transfer and cheap rates afterwards:

You can just use a debit card with Wise. It brings the fee up a little bit but only a couple dollars.
