TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses alternatives for obtaining a tourist visa for Thailand after the user has completed two land visa runs. The responses suggest applying for a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate, particularly in places like Vientiane or Penang, if the user has already utilized the two visa exemption entries allowed by land. Additionally, it is highlighted that carrying a minimum cash amount of 20,000 baht is recommended to avoid entry issues. There's also clarification on the difference between visa runs and border bounces, indicating that border bounces are limited to two entries per calendar year for visa exemption.

, I think you are confusing two different things

A "visa-run" where you go to a thai consulate and get a visa for thailand

AND

A "border-bounce" where you stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country then stamp back into thailand to either get a visa exempt entry stamp or to activate another entry on a multi-entry visa.

It is ONLY the out/in at the borders that are limited to TWO visa exempt entries in a calendar year. IF you had a tourist visa when you entered by land it is not counted.

I'd say just go to Vientiane or Savannakhet. As long as you don't have the warning stamp that you have gotten too many tourist visas from them you're fine using that consulate again

Not sure about that but like three people came on here for help last week and said the 20k on hand was required. They were detained for hours. They wouldn't even let them go to an ATM machine to get the money.

This is about visa exemption entries by land. Visa runs are not affected.

Make sure you have that 20,000 baht in cash on you. There's been a bunch of stories this past of people denied entry and detained.

If 2 times border bounce by land this year, then you need to either go out and come back by air, or get a tourist visa rather than come back visa-exempt. Of the Thai consulates I've used, the one in Vientiane has always been pretty user-friendly. Penang is also okay, maybe depends where you are now and which is closest.

Outward flight and hotel booking are the current requirements in Penang.

Oh so you've already done 2 tourist visas and 2 visa exemptions in the past year? There is never a guarantee that you will get another. Bring proof of 20k Baht (preferably in cash) also for the return to Thailand as border officials are reportedly requiring this even if you have a tourist visa. As for other documents in Penang, just 2 photos and your passport with a couple clean pages + signed photocopies of your main page and Malaysian entry stamp page. And it helps to dress politely ;-)
