Hello, I'm a Canadian who in 2018 received 3 60 day visas 2 by land going to Penang and 1 in Seoul by flight. Will I have difficulty getting a 4th 60 day visa, which will be in the new year Jan 2019, flying to Hanoi or Laos? I'm looking to buy roundtrip tickets now before they go up. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian who received 3 tourist visas in 2018 is inquiring about the potential difficulties in obtaining a 4th 60-day visa in January 2019, after having made 2 land crossings and 1 flight entry. Comments clarify that while there are limits on visa exempt land entries, there is technically no limit on tourist visas obtained from Thai consulates, though different consulates may impose individual caps. It's also suggested that he ensure he meets all consulate requirements and consider obtaining a non-immigrant visa and work permit as alternatives.

Okay, there is some confusion by the O/P AND by posters about the difference between the limit of 30 day visa exempt entries by land and the limit of actual tourist visas you can get from thai consulates.

Right now there is a limit of TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31)

AND

There is technically NO limit to the number of tourist visas you can get from thai consulates. Each thai consulate does put a limit of how many you can get from them before you get the warning stamp which states you can't use that consulate for tourist visas anymore.

BUT

As long as you bounce around from consulate to consulate you should be able to get quite a few tourist visas before one of the consulates warning stamps you.

, Make SURE you meet the requirements at the consulate you're applying at for the tourist visa (they are NOT all the same). Also as Mark Allan stated correctly, make sure you have the proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking when you fly into the country JUST in case you're asked. You have a history of living here on tourist visas and that puts you in the high risk category for being questioned when you fly in.

OR

As people pointed out, you could go to the thai consulate in Vientiane and get a single entry tourist visa, then cross into thailand at the Nong Khai land border and go to Udon Thani to fly where ever it is you need to in thailand. That way you cleared passport control at Nong Khai (the easiest border crossing in the country to get in and out of).

Good Luck

thanks for the advice! I appreciate it !

@La ************
sure that works fine, I just wanted you to cross IN to thailand at Nong Khai and then fly where you need to from Udon so you already cleared passport control and don't get questioned by immigration officers at the airport like you might if you flew back into thailand from Vientiane.

@Tod ********
so would it be ok to fly into Vientaine and return by land ? Or should I go by land via Udon Thani roundtrip?

isn't it better to apply for a non imm visa and work permit ?

It may sound very strange, but with the Non Immigrant B visa and a Work Permit you are still allowed to travel outside Thailand. And the benefit is you work legal inside Thailand.

Eventually but I have to return to Canada for a wedding in March so at this point I just need one more 60 day visa.

Other than 2 visa exempt land crossings, nothing starts over again 1st January

P.S. having a visa is not a guarantee you'll be permitted into the country. When you enter Thailand again ensure you have proof of accommodation, onward flight, and 20,000 baht (or equivalent foreign currency) on you. No, a bank card, statement or credit card won't cut it. We've seen several reports of people being denied entry because they didn't have these with them.

Good luck.

Go to Vientiane Laos. Easiest/friendliest consulate in the region. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay US $43 for the visa for Laos (bring US cash or face horrible exchange rates).

I'm considering Vietnam or Laos

they are wrong. Penang are now strict on issuing back too back tourist visas but there is no official limit.

@R**
somebody from a Visa Agency in Penang told me 3 SETV per year is the maximum..

@La ************
who knows? Nobody can say what policy will be tomorrow. You certainly wouldnt get a 4th visa on the bounce if you applied in Penang i doubt.
Ron *******
Lucian Avadani no limit. The only limit is entering via a land border visa exempt which is twice a year.

So next year going for a 4th one will it be an issue?

@R**
, I probably misunderstood. Regarding the number of Single Tourist Visas per year I understood there's a cap of 3 per year but didn't understand if per calendar year or 365 days.
Ron *******
@Lucian ********
you can get as many 60 day tourist visas as an embassy or consulate is willing to issue you and can enter with those visas as many times as immigration will allow.

I meant to reply to Lucian, not you, apologies
Ron *******
@Michelle ******
exactly. Nothing else changes so i have no idea what your on about?
Michelle *******
@Ron ******
you are allowed to cross overland *on the exemption scheme* twice per calendar year.

This is well known.

Has nothing to do with 60 day visas.

Would you be so kind to share where do you have this info from? 2nd - this means they count it by the calendar - like - how many 60 Day VIsas you received in the last 365 days?
