Can I apply for a tourist visa in Vientiane after using my visa exemption in Thailand?

Hi, I am Italian and currently in Bangkok.

I have been in Thailand this year already 5 months on a visa exemption period.

Last time I arrived, the officer at the airport let me enter but he told me that I will not be allowed to enter Thailand anymore and that I need a visa.

I would like to stay here some more months.

I am planning to go to Ventiane or Singapore and apply for a tourist visa. Could the visa be denied?

Thanks in advance,

Andrea

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Italian expat currently in Bangkok, is seeking advice on applying for a tourist visa after staying 5 months under a visa exemption. They mention previous guidance from an airport officer suggesting they would not be allowed re-entry without a visa. Responses indicate that applying for a tourist visa at a Thai consulate, such as in Vientiane, is likely to be successful as prior visa-exempt entries typically do not impact the visa approval process.

There is little or no chance you will be denied a visa from a thai consulate because visa exempt entries don't affect your ability to get a visa or not.

I'd say you're fine, go to the thai consulate in vientiane and get a single entry tourist visa.

The thai consulate in Vientiane is the only one that doesn't require any of the 3-proof-ofz;

proof of 20K baht (or the equivalent) in a bank account

proof of onward travel in 60 days

proof of a hotel booking

All the other consulates in the area require some or all of those things

It is close, they process visas quickly, it is a fairly inexpensive city, and you don't have to pay for a visa to get in to. A lot of people prefer Laos for those reasons... I prefer Kuala Lumpur or Bali, but for a SETV it really doesn't matter too much where you go in the region if you have the means to go and chill for a few of days. Just be sure to check the consulate website for any local holiday closures and specific paperwork requirements.

Hi, why do you suggest Ventiane over Singapore or other cities?

Do you currently have ANY tourist visas from a thai consulate OR were all your entries on the 30 day visa exempt..
