So .. I've read some of the online Visa London posts so far and I now understand why I had a meltdown today!! (Got autistic traits and dyspraxia so it wasnt just a swearing session😀) the info so far is helping me to understand that its not easy for anyone and in also wondering if anyone has extended their Visa in samui.... may be an easier option ! Will be in Thailand for 59 days. And staying in ko pangan initially. Live close to London but seems like all the consulates where you can do form with them are too far!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user discusses their experience and concerns related to obtaining and potentially extending their tourist visa for a stay of 59 days in Thailand. They express anxiety about the process, particularly in London, and inquire about the feasibility of extending their visa in Koh Samui. Community responses indicate that a visa exemption for 30 days is possible upon arrival, with an extension option available at Samui's immigration office for an additional 30 days. They confirm plans to have return flights and accommodations arranged, but there are mixed feelings regarding the necessity of obtaining a visa before arrival.

So my airline is fine with waiting till we get to Thailand to extend Visa but I emailed thai embassy in London and they said immigration on arrival in Thailand might not be happy that we haven't got our visa... think its because weve booked our return flights. So might have to go back to the online Visa thing again ☹

The only issue could be the check-in staff at your airport of departure if you do not have proof of intention to leave Thailand within the 30 days granted by a visa-exempt entry. KLM and Emirates staff where I fly from (Glasgow) always ask, but I always have a visa.

Etihad have confirmed that I can get extension in samui. So hopefully I cam just go ahead with it when we get to Thailand now!!

Thats a very valid point. There was a very nice man on here who seems to know what he's talking about (in the airline business) and advised to contact the airline direct and ask about their policy on this. the safest bet is to book a cheap flight out of thailand (you can get an air Asia flight to KL for around 800thb) within the 30 days.

I'll check that out.. thankyou. Weve booked return flights so they can see we are leaving but I know they still ask. I had that in Bali as I hadn't booked my flight yet to Thailand even though I'd booked my return flight to Heathrow! We are flying with Etihad... I will email them

Also re Visa history... only time I applied for Visa was ten years ago from Cambodia for 60 days in thailand. Other Thailand trips have been 30 days

Thankyou again! If the process at samui is v straight forward then it might be best option. Re disability pension do you mean it would go in my favour or against me? I dont get any disability benefits.

im not sure but I think she's being a smart arse re the pension, ignore it.

So, if you don't have much visa history in Thailand, suggest visa exempt (30 days) with extention at Samui 1900thb (30 days). Need a couple of passport photos each and copies of passport. Get the form at immigration.

Thankyou both😊 tourist Visa and British. If the process at samui is loads easier and less stressful than e Visa here it would possibly cost us similar in transport minus £10 each less in Visa costs so might be worth it!

No actual need for tourist visa when staying 59 days only. You can just arrive without a visa and will receive an exemption stamp for 30 days at border or airport. (Assuming your British?)

Make sure you have a return flight when you board and extend your entry stamp at Immigration office at Samui before your first 30 days expire (1900TBH-50£).

With this you receive an extra 30 days.

Though if you change your mind and want to stay longer you can not and have to exit after 60 days in this case.

When you decide to get a tourist visa in England (valid for 60 days) then you can stretch it to 90 by extending it at Immigration (anywhere in Thailand)

What visa are you looking for. You can extend at Samui immigration.
