What should I do if the Thai embassy requests a domestic partnership certificate for my girlfriend's tourist visa application?

My girlfriend and me are applying for tourist E-Visa online. We live together for 25 years. But for my girlfriend, the officer is requesting the Domestic partnership certificate. (please check the screenshot in attachment)

But we do not have this document, because:

In Slovenia, cohabiting couples are equal in rights and obligations to married couples.EXAMPLE:A couple that has been living together for several years, is emotionally attached as lovers, shares finances, but hadn’t got married, will be considered living in a cohabitation partnership.

We live in Slovenia and would like to go to Thailand from 4th February till 17th March (40 days). For Slovenian citizens, we need visa if we stay more than 30 days.

What can I do?

Please help, thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A couple applying for a tourist e-visa to Thailand faces a request for a Domestic Partnership Certificate, which they do not possess due to Slovenian cohabitation laws that treat long-term couples as married. They seek guidance on whether they need this document, especially since Slovenian citizens can enter Thailand without a visa for stays up to 60 days. Responses suggest clarifying with the embassy about the requirement and possibly moving forward with evidence of their cohabitation if pursuing a visa.

you most probably applied for the wrong tourist visa. There are TWO types of single entry tourist visas: one is "Tourism Leisure", and the other is "Tourism Family". The last one is the wrong one if you are applying as two single individuals. You should have choosen "Tourism Leisure", applying for this one, no embassy will ask you for any partnership or family proof

@Greg **********
I think that you are wrong about this. There are no tourist visa such as "Tourism Family". As for purpose of stay there are 6 options to choose from and they are very clear, see picture. (The only option that mention the word family is phrased "To visit family residing in Thailand" and I doubt that they chose that purpose.)

Even when choosing "Tourism/leisure activities" you are asked for marital status and I think this is where the OP made a mistake... (see other comments).

thank you!
Koin ******
same in France but you need official mariage certificate.
Cissi *********
@Koin *****
to get a tourist visa?!?

I'm sorry, but I highly doubt that... I mean ANY adult independant individual should be able to apply for a tourist visa if they meet the requirements.

Being married is not a requirement! They can't reject a tourist visa application on the fact that someone is single or living with a partner without being married!
Koin ******
oh no sorry misunderstood. I spoke about "legal mariage recognition" in general in Thailand. Not specially tourist visa. In this case I think you right. I hope you will find a solution. Ask a visa yourself without link with your "husband".
Cissi *********
@Koin *****
I'm not the one travelling... 😉

Like others have written already, Slovenian citizens can enter Thailand without a visa (visa exemption) for up to 60 days.

However, if you still want to proceed with your girlfriends visa application (since you already paid for it), I suggest that you send the ID copies on the first request. On the second request ask the embassy to clarify what they mean by "domestic partnership certificate". Explain that there are no such document in Slovenia so you need to know what they want to confirm by this type of document.

I would also ask them kindly, if there's a reason why they request that certificate from an adult independant applicant.

(I'm curious to know if they would reject her application for a tourist visa if she was single?)

and
@John ******
I have a question for you two...

(If we ignore the fact that they can enter visa exempt...) Isn't it a very strange request from the embassy to ask the girlfriend for a domestic partnership certificate?! I mean you can't apply for touristvisa as a family (married or not), each person must apply individually so whether someone is married, single or living with a partner should be irrelevant... or am I missing something here? 🤔
Graham ******
@Cissi ********
Yes, each individual needs their own visa whether married or not
Cissi *********
@Graham *****
I am fully aware of that. In fact you can't even apply for a tourist visa for multiple persons in one application... I mean there are no such option in the system.
Graham ******
@Cissi ********
correct, two applications from start to end, they are not linked
Cissi *********
@Graham *****
exactly (which is why the embassies request makes no sense)!
Greg ***********
@Graham *****
that's why Luka must have picked the wrong tourist visa type, being the only explanation. Only on the "tourism visa visit family in Thailand", you get asked about the marital status. When choosing the "tourism leisure" visa type, you won't get asked about your marital status. Maybe it just slipped his attention when he choose the tourist visa type. As there are six of them you can choose from, so maybe he just moved the cursor over the wrong one
Cissi *********
@Greg **********
just try the platform, choose tourism/leisure and see for yourself!
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
you are right, I stand corrected
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
they probably applied for the wrong tourist visa. There are TWO types of single entry tourist visas: one is "Tourism Leisure", and the other is "Tourism Family". The last one is the wrong one if they are applying as two single individuals
Cissi *********
@Greg **********
I've NEVER seen the option "Tourism Family". Only "To visit family residing in Thailand" and I'm pretty sure they didn't choose that one... After Luka's comments earlier I believe it has to do with choosing the wrong marital status (civil union/domestic partnership).
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
exactly, the "tourism visa to visit family residing in Thailand" is the one I mentioned. In the e-Visa system it shows under options when you are asked to choose your visa type. It is the only type of tourist visa, for which you get asked in the e-visa process about your marital or spousal status. I strongly suspect Luka applied for this type, instead for "tourism leisure". His description fits and it might even be Slovenia-specific
Cissi *********
@Greg **********
no, in the e-visa system you are asked for marital status on the tourist visa for tourism/leisure purposes as well...

And as the OP already explained he chose "Common union/Domestic Partnership". I am convinced that this is the reason they asked for that specific certificate (although I can't understand the reason since it is an application for an adult independant individual, not a child or dependant in anyway).

I am also convinced that they chose "Tourism/leisure activities" as purpose of visit from the given options (see picture).
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
and this leads me to the conclusion that Luka picked the wrong "tourism" option. Maybe it just happened accidentally? It DEFINITELY is the only tourist visa type where you are asked about your marital status 😎😉
Cissi *********
@Greg **********
why would he have picked "to visit...". No, just as he have written in another comment, he chose the domestic partnership status since he doesn't consider themselfs as single.

And they DO ask for marital status on the e-visa platform when you apply for a regular tourist visa.

Not for proof of it, but for the information (similar to being asked to fill in Mr/Mrs or Male/Female in other forms).
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
on the "visit family" option, however, you will get asked for the status to the person you wish to visit
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
this is wrong. On the Tourist Leisure option you are NOT asked for your marital status. WHERE is this requirement?
Cissi *********
@Greg **********
I am not sure where that information is from, but that doesn't really matter. Of course it is not a requirement to be married or single or whatever, to obtain a tourist visa! However on the e-visa platform it is mandatory to fill in marital status (chose from a dropbox) even when applying for a tourist visa (just as you have to add date of birth, address etc). It is not a requirment to obtain a visa, but requiered information.

If you don't believe me, just try the e-visa platform yourself (just as I did).
Greg ***********
@Cissi ********
true, but this is not related to the dropdown menu where you choose the type of tourist visa, as there are 6 types. However you are right, if he choose "civil union/domestic" under "marital status" instead of "single", he definitely over-complicated the application 😂😅 "som nam na" we say in Thailand
Carey *********
@Cissi ********
exellent point.
John *******
@Cissi ********
I agree. We only have the original poster’s statement. Maybe they were fundamentally wrong on what was happening
Greg ***********
@John ******
they probably applied for the wrong tourist visa. There are TWO types of single entry tourist visas: one is "Tourism Leisure", and the other is "Tourism Family". The last one is the wrong one if they are applying as two single individuals
Cissi *********
@John ******
well there is the screenshot where you can see the request at the bottom. Makes no sense to me really! 😂
John *******
@Cissi ********
does it show two applicants ?
Cissi *********
@John ******
no it looks like one.
Ajané **********
For me, I made a pdf document that included multiple screenshots of years worth of leases with both of our names and that explained our situation. As well as a few utility bills (like phone bill, rental insurance, etc.) that listed both of our names. Needed this for “proof of marriage” for our children’s visas and it ended up working for us
John *******
The problem is Thailand doesn’t recognize you as a legal (married) couple. It doesn’t matter that the Slovenian government gives you equal rights. In the eye of the Thai government you are both single individuals
Graeme ******
Slovenia has now a 60 day visa exemption which was introduced in July this year. So you are your girlfriend can get the visa exemption as you arrive in thailand.

@Graeme *****
why the e-visa webpage didnt aknowledge me about that? I have paid for 2 visas 70 eur for nothing??
Graeme ******
@Luka ***********
unfortunately the e visa website won't direct you to visa exemption. Lots of information on the Internet is still out of date with the changes that took place in July this year. You didn't need a visa for your travel plans as you and your girlfriend can enter thailand visa exempt
