TLDR : Answer Summary
Acceptable reasons for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa application (TM7) for a 90-day stay in Thailand include being over 50 years old, being married to a Thai national, being married to a foreigner holding an extension of stay, raising children who are half-Thai or full foreign nationals, or participating in volunteer activities. It's important to check with your local immigration office, as not all can convert a 30-day visa exempt entry to a Non-O visa, and they may have specific documentation requirements.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.

also not every immigration office can do a conversion from a 30 day visa exempt entry to a Non-O visa, Most offices that can do it require at least 15 days or more left on your current stamp (although chiang mai required 21 days or more).
GO to your immigration office and check to see IF they can do it and get the hand out that lists the required documentation to get it.
nope, you do not. When you get the 90 day Non-O visa IN COUNTRY at the immigration office (at least in Bangkok) they have a requirement that you show the money was transferred in from overseas.
BUT when you apply for a yearly extension of stay there is no requirement to show where the money came from only that it was 'seasoned' in the account for the required period of time before you apply for your extension.
Currently the rules are for the first yearly extension you need the money in your account for 60 days before you apply, and for every year after that you need the money in your account for 3 months.
However starting March 1st the rules change and you need the money in your account for 2 months BEFORE you apply for your extension & keep the 800K baht balance in there for 3 months AFTER you apply AND you cannot let the balance drop below 400K baht during the rest of the year.
Good Luck (y) report back and let us know IF that office can do the conversion.
If they can't you would have to get it from a thai consulate in a nearby country.

I have a Thai Bank account in my name only with more than the required minimum. And am over 50 so hopefully Udon Thani immigration will accept my application tomorrow for Non-O. Thx. for your help.
ALL of those reasons have financial requirements too. AND they're all stand alone reasons for getting a Non-O visa <- meaning you don't need to be married to a thai IF you're applying for the Non-O based on being over 50.
BUT
The financial requirements for a Non-O based on being over 50 is that you bank 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only transferred in from overseas OR you prove you get 65K baht a month income from abroad with a letter from your embassy

Tod Daniels. Just being over 50 will be enough? Or marriage to a Thai is also required alongwith being over 50.

Tod Daniels This is what I thought I learnt from you too ... visa from a consulate or embassy abroad ... extension of stay from Immigration Office in THA. I am a little bit confused now like Annika.
