TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa, you will need to gather specific documents, especially if applying due to marriage to a Thai national. Comments indicate that you can switch from a tourist visa to a 90-day Non-O visa at immigration. The Chiang Mai immigration office provides a list of required documents, and you may need to submit your paperwork and return for your visa stamp. Also, it's important to have at least 21 days left on your current visa for the application.

This is one of the few times their patriarchal society works in my favour.

Nope, there are no financial requirements for foreign women married to thai men like there are for foreign men married to thai women.

There is a gurl up in your area who recently got the Non-O based on marriage to a thai national from the Chiang Mai immigration office.

Her name is
@Ashley **************
, she can tell you what is required .

@Ash***
, yeah that 60 day visit family extension can be issued based on marriage or raising kids (thai or foreign) and can be issued once per entry. If she needs more time she should be able to get that.

BUT

as it is right now she has 26 days left on her extension now. She should be able to pull off getting the 90 day Non-O without the 60 day extension if she gets on it and has her ducks in a row ;)

yes if im not mistaken.. theyll give anyone a 2ndary extensioon if needed but only for 7 days.... so i bet theyd give based on family even longer..... please correct me if im wrong

** also they may be helpful and fudge you in line to get you in by the date if you have jst over the 21 days... so even better to go prepared.. jst in case they let you hand in same day which would be awesome for you!

I've already done my two mae Sai trips for this year as well, so I won't be able to go there again.

Thanks to you both for your prompt and helpful responses.

Good point
@Ash***
, I forgot that she could get a 60 day "visit family" extension for 1900baht to give her time without going to the border :)

@Missy ******
yes go anyway and go straight to the 2nd floor... they may tell you you can be able to get an extension based on family purposes... which on a regular extension can be apparently 2 months... so for a secondarly extension maybe theres another allowance if based on family. never hurts to ask :) good luck

@Mi***
you have 26 days, you should just make it. BUT remember if your time runs out you can always go to the Mae Sai -Tachiliek border with burma and get a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp

Go to the 2nd floor of promenada immigration open from 10am-4. And ask them for papers information and schedule appt to hand in your change of application ( this will usually be scheduled 3-4 weeks later as they are backed up. Gives u time to get all.ur papers together ext. ... *** YOU MAY need t get an extension on your current visa before doing this is you dont have min 30 days on ur visa... u will probably end up needing one anyways as usually will need about 50 days all said and done.

so be prepared for them to send you downstairs to first get an extension.**

.go back on said appt date and hand in all documents. The immigration will go over each paper and certify and u will sign each paper with them when u are there. Pay 2000 baht. And u will get another appt slip 21 days later to go back in to get visa in passport ( u will go at 10 am to hand in passport that day and collect again 3 pm with visa in passport .

You can go directly from a tourist visa to a 90 day Non-O visa INSIDE the country at the immigration office in Chiang Mai without much of a problem.

You need at least 21 days left on your current stamp to do it. If you haven't extended your tourist visa yet you can get a 30 day extension for 1900baht.

You should go to the Chiang Mai immigration office and get the sheet of paper that shows the required documentation. They give you a date to come back for your appointment, you turn in your paperwork then come back in two weeks to get the 90 day Non-O stamped into your passport. After that you wait until you have 45 days or less left on the new 90 day stamp and you apply for the year extension based on marriage to a thai national.
