Someone I know is on a work visa that was cancelled, but they were allowed back in the country on this cancelled visa.

They are leaving to get a tourist visa in a few days. Should they try and handle this at CM immigration ahead of time? Or just try to leave and hope for the best?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A person with a cancelled work visa has been allowed back into Thailand and is considering whether to address this situation with immigration officials before leaving to apply for a tourist visa. Community members have mixed opinions, suggesting that it might not be advisable to leave without resolving the visa status due to potential complications such as overstays or future visa applications.

Is this something that needs to be addressed at an immigration office before leaving the country and applying for a tourist visa? Or just deal with overstay fees at the border when stamping out?

How was he allowed in with a canceled visa? The visa sticker would have a marking or written/stamped "used" on top. Do you in stead mean he had an extension from a non b with a reentry permit? A stamp from an immigration office that is. In that case maybe it wasn't actually cancelled, and he would be on overstay now. Even though they stamped him in again, the base for that stamp was no longer valid, if he did not work anymore.
