Howdy,

My SETV expires this month and I’d like another 3 months, usually I’d do a run to Mae Sae from Chiang Mai to get VE stamp but it’s a lot of hassle and I’d have to do it twice.

What is the best option at the moment for getting a new SETV from a neighbouring country?

By best option I mean: least amount of hassle and least risk of having issues getting one. Also flying back to Chiang Mai to avoid hassle at BKK airports.

How long should I plan for it take?

Any recent reports of problems entering via CNX airport?

Thanks 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the best way to renew their SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) from a neighboring country, specifically looking for options that involve the least hassle and risk of issues, with a preference for avoiding Bangkok airports and opting for flights back to Chiang Mai. Comments suggest alternatives like applying for a METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) in Perth, Australia, or considering Vietnam as a simpler option to re-enter Thailand.

U still can enter landborders with a visa. Not VE, VE is restricted to twice per year...

Avoid BKK airports.

Vietnam is the easiest

If your passport is on the approved list travel to Perth Australia and apply for the 6 month METV, you can get 9 months out of it...all you have to do is meet all the requirements for the visa

after tax quite a few of my friends are working full time in clubs and bars restaurants or sales and don’t pull £350 a week after tax national insurance

If that was the case why do so many people in full time employment often say be better off on benefits

I’m just saying from experience

Beg to differ

It would be difficult to find someone in the UK in full time employment *not* earning that money – it's barely over minimum wage.

@Larry *****
yes new rules came into play for many different visas

The non O to visit my wife in Thailand for 90 days now asks for me to provide bank statements with income of £1500

In the U.K. it would be pretty difficult to find many people in full time employment earning that kind of money

Also the same requirement for volunteer visa occurred about the same time 4-5 weeks before I came to Thailand

Same for education visa etc etc

All NON O are asking a lot more documentation especially if not for spouse circumstances

Always a wise move to join the thai U.K. forum or something similar

There’s always someone up to date with requirements even though the embassy or immigration might not be upto par themselves

James Siegel yes confirmed as the only Consulate in the area that allows on PR’s and Citizens to obtain that visa....you only have to meet all the requirements of the visa

So you applied for a Non-O and didn't have the full paperwork because you weren't aware of the new rules, so they turned you down?
Larry ******
@Kyle *******
because I was there when they were turned down I didn’t need this form for a non o volunteer but they said 3 weeks ago they changed but of course they didn’t tell anyone
Mark *******
Rule of thumb, never ever ever go to the same consulate/embassy 3x in a row for an SETV....

Larry Beck What was it that they wanted that wasn't required? How do you know many others got turned down on the same day?
Larry ******
@Chris ****
yes i heard about quotas to maybe best to go early in the month but they are losing money to and can’t imagine that they want to lose the money
Chris *****
@Larry *****
I’d a total waste of time and money experience in HK a few weeks ago, and it was meant to be straight forward. Someone had mentioned filling up their quota, so further applications are just denied.
@Kyle *******
maybe rethink Hanoi then mate.
Larry ******
Chris Jay yes it used to be a great place agreed but they said 3 weeks ago they changed some rules and not only was I turned down but many others the same day I had all the correct paperwork and they wanted something more that was not required and would not help at all and nothing about the change on there website I think they have had a complete change of staff very rude now
Chris *****
@Larry *****
no reason at all? Was so so easy when I was there in October last year. I’d prepared everything, like you always should, handed it over, quick check and out within 10 mins.

@Mark ******
just got back from hanoing it’s not what it used to be but maybe it will be different for you

Thanks Mark – I only need a few months though, so no need for a METV
