What are the current procedures for extending a visa in Chiang Mai related to COVID-19?

CM Immigration Covid 60 Day Extension Attempt:

Arrived at 8:15 and walked out at 9:15. It wasn't crowded at all and was unusually quick.

1 copy of all the same forms as last time except for the printout about embassies not giving out letters. They didn't want that one.

They gave me the 14 day "under consideration" stamp, but starting from when the current extension ends (Jan 29th) so I will have to come back to CM in 3 weeks to get the other 45 days. Fun.

Does anyone have theories on the purpose of the loop? Because it went so fast I don't think an actual immigration officer signed off on it. Just the counter minions.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience with the immigration office in Chiang Mai regarding a COVID-19 related visa extension. They arrived early and had a surprisingly quick visit, requiring copies of forms except one regarding embassy letters. They received a 14-day 'under consideration' stamp starting from the expiration of their current visa, necessitating a return for the remainder of the extension. Comments from others express confusion about procedures and discuss the requirements for those with different visa types.

I got the exact same results and I waited for HOURS when I went on Tuesday so I assure you it doesn't matter about the "minions". I even asked the counter person why it's not the automatic 60 days like some others are getting and she said something to the effect of "My supervisor said we are doing it this way" a non-answer but at least there was a supervisor involved. 🙃

there appears to be NO rhyme or reason on it. BUT at least C/M is giving you the 14 day under consideration stamp dated from when your current stamp expired <-meaning the extension will be dated from that date too SO you didn't lose any time on the current stamp applying early.

Coming from my original / initial visa stamp, they insisted that the extension stamp would count from the day of applying for it and that they could not stamp it extending the original end date of my initial stamp. They were so nice as to advise me that I would thus lose about 13 days and offered / asked me to come back on the date of my original stamp expiring. Back then, they said I would get a 60 day extension then, straight away. Hoping for that, today, I found out that now they only issue "under consideration" stamp, so I will have to come back yet another time to get what I wanted. My feeling is, it all depends not only on what immigration office you go to, but even on who you talk to within that office. As usual they totally lack coherence in handling these things. TiT.

as we've seen the last few days with how every officer seems to give the stamp from different dates here in CM I don't think we can claim there is a consistent method. Some have gotten 60 days added to the existing stamp, some have gotten the under consideration added to the existing stamp, some have gotten it from the 29th, and myself and a few others have gotten it from the day we applied.

what it seems now (the more stamps I "collect" images of IS

If you're applying for ANOTHER 60 day covid extension (meaning you're on a 60 day covid extension now and you want another one) they are ADDING the new extension to the expiration date you have

BUT

If you're going from a different extension, (medical, etc) to a covid one it's starting on the date you apply for it NOT being added to your current expiration date

I see. It would be nice to see that there was actually a rhyme or reason instead of completely random and inconsistent. Mine wasn't from an extension, but my original TR entry. Perhaps that also fits into the second bucket.

@Wy***
totally fits the second one because you were "changing the reason" for your extension from tourism to covid meaning it would start the day you applied rather than be added to your existing stamp.

When you apply for a 30 day extension on a tourist visa entry that is added to the expiration date of the entry stamp BUT when you go from that to a 60 day covid extension that extension would start the date you applied for it (or that is what me reviewing the many stamps and visa/extension scenarios seem to bear out

I lose time off the end of my life by breathing this smoke if I stay here for 3 more weeks though :p

Quality over quantity.

what was the forms you needed for CM. I need to go next week but I am on a TR and havent had my 30 days extension yet so they may insist on that first i guess. I am staying at a hotel, do i need proof of TM30 or just assume hotel has filed it electronically? Ill bring the forms needed for covid extension just in case.
Frank-Steven ***********
No need to get that regular 30 day extention first - in fact, they won't even issue that at all in CM. Went do Immigration today. 60-day covid extension. Unfortunately, with 15 day under consideration, first. And yes, TM-30 confirmation slip in the original + photocopy was insisted.

@Da**
I have not seen any reports of recent entries on 60 day tourist visa or 45 day visa exempt entries that were able to get the 60 day covid extension until they already got the regular 30 day extension.

I’m at mtt now and they are only giving me the 30 day first extension and won’t give me the 60 day Covid stamp.
Dave *******
Annoying because the time the 30 days are up the Covid extension will more than likely have finished.

Since you are staying at a hotel, first ask if they registered you. Try and get them to screenshot it for you, but if they won't, you can go to the office behind the main office (off to the left by the photocopy room) and ask them to check it/print it for you. If you are in the system, they will give you the slip which you then need to photocopy.
