Should I Mention My DTV Visa When Entering Thailand on Visa Exemption?

Hi everyone! I have a DTV visa and will visit Thailand for 2 weeks next month, then travel to China before returning to Thailand for another 3 weeks.

I could use visa exemption for both stays, so should I mention my DTV visa at immigration or would that just complicate things?

I'm leaning toward mentioning it, both to use it and in case I'm stuck there for whatever reason and I need to stay longer.

What would you recommend? Thanks!
Answer summary
A user with a DTV visa inquired whether to mention it at immigration during two upcoming short stays in Thailand. Most commenters suggested using the DTV visa for all entries, as it provides longer stay options and maintains a clean immigration record. Entering on a visa exemption while having a valid DTV could lead to complications, such as voiding the DTV. To ensure a smooth process, it's recommended to present the DTV along with necessary documents at immigration.

Why on earth would you not use your dtv. Pretty sure you risk losing it if you enter on visa exemption

If you enter with visa excemption your DTV will be void as far as I know.

You can't use visa exempt if you have a valid visa

If you have active DTV, it is better to enter on DTV each time even for short stays. If you go for exemption while holding DTV, some officers still stamp exemption and your DTV stays unused but you lose the long stay buffer if plans change. Entering on DTV gives you up to one hundred eighty days each entry and keeps record clean for future extensions.

At immigration just show DTV print plus return ticket and they will stamp DTV entry. Keep e visa PDF, TM30 if you have condo, and tell officer you want to use DTV for this trip. That way your China exit and second entry also counts as DTV and you can stay longer if needed without rush.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

You have a DTV. You're supposed to use it when you enter the country.

You're using it exactly for what it was designed for: being a tourist.

Why would a valid multi entry visa complicate things ? You have a DTV, you will be fine using it.

I've come and gone twice and used DTV each time and have been given 6 months each time - I think it's good to use it and shows a consistent record in your passport
