Hey guys,

I have a question, I will be in Thailand from the 1 March until the 7 June, so a little bit more than 3 months..

Monday, I will go to the Thai embassy to apply for a Visa.. Can I just apply for the normal one for 3 months and then do a Border run or do I have to apply for the multiple entry Visa?

Thank you in advance for your help :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the best visa option for a stay in Thailand from March 1 to June 7, spanning over three months. Comments suggest that a Single Entry Tourist Visa, which allows a 60-day stay extendable by 30 days, could be suitable, along with a border run for an additional 30 days, while others recommend considering a Multiple Entry Visa.

Multiple entry visas is good then applying three month visa
Luke ******
A Multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months and it allows a permission of stay of 60 days per entry, extendable for another 30, but one would still need to exit the country after 90 days. The requirements to obtain a METV are more strict, it costs 5 times more than a single, and based on what the OP described, it's not reallt what she needs. But it's an useful visa for some nevertheless, you can stretch your stay in Thailand for 9 months ๐Ÿ˜

You can apply for the Singe Entry Tourist Visa, this will give you 60 days stay on entry, can be extended once with 30 days at local Immigration. Than a border run for another 30 days.

Thanks

Your information and knowledge on all this is great! We will be coming in again in the fall from KL. But we do have all the stuff for what you mentioned. :-)
Luke ******
Tamra N David Yes you can. KL will require quite a few docs (proof of accomodation, flights out of Thailand, bank statement), whereas Vientiane will issue a single entry tourist visa only with an application form, photo and the 1000 baht fee. No other supporting documents. I advise you to go to Vientiane.

Can you get Visa's at other Thai consulate besides your home country? Say Laos or KL ?
Luke ******
@Tamra *********
Without a visa you're limited to 30+30. After that you have to exit Thailand and reenter if you wish to stay longer.

...Thanks
@Luke *******
, We are on the move coming from South Pacific..so, :-( we do not have the Thai Embassy around.

We are US citizens.

Tamra n David - If you arrive without a visa, if your nationality qualifies, you will get a 30 day visa exempt permission of stay, extendable for another 30 days. Since you are planning to stay 70 days, you should apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa at the Thai Embassy / consulate in your country, that will give you a permission of stay of 60 days upon arrival, and you can extend that in Koh Samui for a further 30 days.

@Robert ******
, my wife and I are headed to Ko Samui in a few weeks, and will be staying for over 70 Days...we heard that the entry tourist visa was only 30 Days at an international airport...is it now 60 Days, then can be extended for another 30 Days?

It's not that clear for me, but anyways, :) i was trying to save you the hassle of a border run around June 1st. If you exit Thailand for a short trip somewhere in between (and reenter after April 9th), you go for visa exempt 30 days+ extension 30 days and it covers you until June 7th, and you avoid the unnecessary stress of exiting just for the sake of doing a border run which may be unnecessary. If my understanding was correct that you wish to take a short trip outside of Thailand while here.

If not other scenarios apply.

You can share this with whoever you wish, everything is above board :)

Thank you all so much! Now it is clear for me!

Is this something I can share with the embassy or do they dislike if people are doing that?

@Luke *******
Only as long as I have to leave the country for being legal in Thailand, haha. But as I am leaving the 7 June I think it will be around 9 days. And yes my nationality is below the visa exempt.
Luke ******
Carina - Well you can't stay longer than 90 days but depending on when you exit and reenter you may do so without a visa (visa exempt), which then you extend, and it may take you past June 7th, saving you the trouble of a border run. If your nationality allows it and if your reenter date is after April 9th. That's why I am asking.

Ok, you need a single entry tourist visa(60 days). You can go to the immigration to extend that for 30 day. That's 90 days. When the extension is coming to an end, you can go over a border and return immediately on a 30 day tourist exempt stamp. That's not a visa, just a free 30 day entry.
Luke ******
How many days after you enter, so after March 1st, are you planning to exit Thailand? And is your nationality allowing you to enter Thailand without a visa (visa exempt)?

Thank you Luke! Actually I only plan to leave Thailand once because of the Visa. Do I have to apply for the reentry permit or can I just get it at any border office or the local imigration? And did I understand correctly that in any of these cases I can not stay longer then 90 days in total in Thailand?
Luke ******
A Single Entry Tourist visa allows you to enter Thailand once and receive a permission of stay of 60 days. Once you leave, you cannot use this visa again unless you get a reentry permit (single 1000 baht / multiple 3800 baht), which will allow you to reenter Thailand on this visa, but you will be admitted until the original date (60 days starting from March 1st). You can also extend the 60 day permission of stay for a further 30 days and you can also apply for a reentry permit while extended. For me to suggest the best scenario it would be useful to know your nationality and how many times you need to exit and approximately when, because certain nationalities can also enter Thailand without a visa(visa exempt -30 day permission of stay), that can also be extended at local Immigration for a further 30 days. So there are many possible scenarios here.

So with the single entry one, Im allowed to leave once the country, is that right?
Robert *******
No. Single Entry means one time. If you like to go out and in several times best option is the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa.

Perfect, that helped me a lot, thank you.

With the Single Entry Visa I am still allowed to leave and enter the country several times then?
Robert *******
Just a confirmation of stay for the first few days, they will understand that you travel through the country and your ticket from and to Thailand. If they have question just explain you will visit a neighbor country also.

Thank you a lot Robert. But what should I prepare then for the embassy? They are asking for a confirmation of stay and the flight tickets, so they will see that I am staying longer. Do I need to buy a pseudo ticket to leave the country or how does that work?
