Hello. Do Bangkok based expats have to file a TM30 when they return from other provinces within Thailand? I feel like I heard that we no longer had to do it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Bangkok, expats must file a TM30 no later than 24 business hours after returning to where they are staying. While some may believe there's an exemption for travels within Thailand, the general rule is that TM30 filings are necessary for stays longer than 24 hours after movement within the country. Hotel stays typically handle the filing, but those residing in condos are responsible for filing themselves.

I'm shutting this down:

1. The OP is asking about Bangkok, not Chiang Mai, not Pattaya, not Mae Hong Son.

2. Each immigration office has their own policies for the TM30, ASK THEM.

3. I know Bangkok requires people to file a TM30 no later then 24 business hours after they arrive at a play where they are staying.

4. Hotels should file the TM30, but if you are living in a condo, it's your responsibility to file the TM30.

My condo landlord filed my last TM30 in October 2019 after I returned from my last visit to the US. She filed in person and was told at CW that she didn’t have to file another TM30 if I only traveled within Thailand. Since then I have traveled in Thailand and stayed at several hotels in Pattaya that I am sure recorded my stays. I am not so sure about the hotels in Isaan.

In any case, my landlord had sent me a photo on the 2019 TM30 receipt. I have printed that out and used it for 1 year extensions at CW in October 2019 and 2020. So, no, I don’t file a TM30 when traveling within Thailand.

ask the immigration office in Phuket if they need a TM30 filed. They have a good team of foreign speaking volunteer who should know the answer

Edward Jarvis I was just asking a question for my own benefit because I have read in the past "on this site" that it is the responsibility of the hotel to do the TM30.

May I ask you one more thing? If we stay the first night back in a Bangkokian hotel, before we go back to our residence, the hotel will do the TM30, and I will not need to do it further when I go back to my Bangkok home, am I correct?

for Bangkok, I understand you have to do a TM30 for any place you stay.

Just saying.

it is the hotels responsibility to file the TM30, but if they returned to the primary place they live, they have to file another TM30
