If get ther soft 5 year dtv visa now and travel to thailand in 6 months. Is that a problem?
Answer summary
When applying for a soft 5-year DTV visa, it's generally advised to apply no more than 3 months before your intended travel date to avoid rejection from embassies. However, once the visa is issued, it remains valid for the full 5 years, allowing you to enter Thailand anytime within that period. Some users recommend waiting to apply until closer to your travel date, while others emphasize that you can travel at your convenience within the visa validity, even if it's many months or years after issuance.

Just ensure during the application process not using a half cropped selfie with sunglasses. Everything else will be fine.

By the way... Thailand should get rid of the soft power DTV but that's not your fault. It exists so use it.

Why apply for a 5 year Visa and wait 6 months to use it.?

Surely it would be better to apply for it when you want to use it...

Go to the visa application website, via your local embassy. There is often advice about how early you should apply apply for the visa or the current waiting periods. Just check first, as each visa waiting time is different.

Alan Turnbull is correct about the visa validity commencing on the day it is issued

Most embassies will reject an application if you apply for a visa and put that you will travel in 6 months time. They will only process visa applications if the travel date is within 3 months.

If the visa gets issued, then you can travel whenever you want within the duration of the visa. You can wait 4 years to travel if you want.

But the visa starts from when its issued, i would wait until around 3 weeks before travel date, try to book a flight that allows you to change the dates. Ask your airline about 'open return tickets' or tickets that allow date changes some sites when you are asked if you want upgrades read the conditions they allow you to change dates of flying

If you qualify for it and you get it, it’s good for five years. You can travel anytime from now to the end of five years. You do not have to go within a certain time.
