Hi,

I'm Heading to Thailand in November and planning to spend 6-12 months there, initially the plan was to apply for the MeTv in October right before we travel as the visa starts from the date of issue but

.... With the new Dtv is with worth applying for it now even though or flight will be on November?

Will we lose time out of the 180 days? Or does the visa start when we land? cheers for all the help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a trip to Thailand for 6-12 months starting in November and is considering whether to apply for the MeTV visa or the newly introduced DTV visa. They are concerned about the start date of the visa, questioning if applying before their flight will lead to losing valuable time from the validity period. A comment clarifies that all visas start on the issuance date, not upon arrival, and advises waiting for more information on the DTV requirements before applying.

Neither.

All visas start the day they are issued by the embassy. The DTV is valid for 5 years, and each time you enter Thailand you will be stamped in for 180 days. If you apply early, then you are eating into the 5 year validity of the visa. If you don't care about that then it won't matter to you, but you're also going to need to show your intended travel to Thailand so it's up to you if you already have that booked.

Personally I would wait until there is more clarity on the visa and the requirements since it's barely a week old and many embassies don't even know what they want to require for it yet.

The Thai Embassy is in Ottawa, that's just a Consulate in Vancouver
